Astros Sign Christian Walker to Three-Year Contract in Free Agency

The Astros are the latest team to make a splash in MLB Free Agency.

According to multiple reports, Houston is signing first baseman Christian Walker. It's a three-year, $60 million deal per ESPN's Alden González.

In his reporting, González suggested that this could mean the end of long-time Astros third-baseman Alex Bregman's time in Houston.

"The addition of Walker in all likelihood marks the end of Alex Bregman's tenure in Houston…" he writes. "Walker manning first base for the next three years means Isaac Paredes, the 25-year-old corner infielder who was recently acquired from the Chicago Cubs in the Kyle Tucker trade, will probably be Bregman's replacement at third base."

Bregman has spent his entire major league career with the Astros, winning two World Series' with the club in 2017 and '22.

As for their newest infield addition in Walker, the 33-year-old spent his last eight season with the Diamondbacks and has won three straight NL Gold Gloves at first base. In 2024, he hit .250/.335/.803 with 26 home runs and 84 RBI.

INEOS aren't messing around: Man Utd readying £87m bid for "unbelievable" star

Manchester United are now preparing a £87m offer for an “unbelievable” forward, who has amassed 11 goals and assists already this season.

Man Utd keen on new forward despite Mbeumo's impressive start

Off the back of scoring 20 Premier League goals for Brentford last season, Bryan Mbeumo was expected to make an instant impact at Man United, and the forward has certainly made an impressive start, most recently scoring against Liverpool.

The Cameroonian opened the scoring for United after just over one minute, coolly slotting past Giorgi Mamardashvili after being played through by Amad Diallo, with Ruben Amorim’s side going on to pick up a statement 2-1 victory courtesy of a late Harry Maguire winner.

Mbeumo is not the only summer signing who has started to catch the eye in recent weeks, as Benjamin Sesko has found his feet, with the Slovenian finding the back of the net in both the 2-0 victory over Sunderland and 3-1 defeat against Brentford.

With Matheus Cunha also arriving at Old Trafford in the summer, Amorim has plenty of options in attacking areas, but another forward is of interest, with an ambitious move being planned.

Indeed, INEOS certainly aren’t messing around, with a report from Spain revealing Man United are now preparing an offer of around €100m (£87m) for former player Mason Greenwood, who has made an impressive start to the season with Marseille.

£62m Man Utd star looks like their best player "since Fergie retired"

Manchester United might just have turned a corner under Ruben Amorim’s wing.

Marseille would be willing to sanction a departure for the right fee, with United reportedly setting a deadline of the summer transfer window for the Ligue 1 side to agree to their terms, and the Red Devils retain a 50% sell-on fee of any sale, which would lower the cost.

Greenwood shouldn't even be considered by Man Utd

Amorim will be hoping the 2-1 victory at Anfield can be a turning point in the season, with the manager finally winning two Premier League games on the spin, and the 40-year-old is likely to have won plenty of fans around courtesy of the victory over United’s bitter rivals.

Alternatively, signing the 24-year-old would be an incredibly divisive decision, given the way in which he left United, so a move should not even be considered, despite the Englishman’s fantastic start to the campaign, chipping in with 11 goal contributions across all competitions.

Instead of signing their former academy graduate, who Nicky Butt once described as “unbelievable”, the Red Devils could look to sign Real Madrid’s Endrick, with it recently being revealed they are readying a January loan move for the young Brazilian.

However, given the start Mbeumo has made to the season, it would not be the end of the world if United missed out on the signature of another new forward, and Amorim will be hoping the 26-year-old can continue his impressive form against Brighton & Hove Albion this weekend.

'I would have loved to play!' – Vincent Kompany wished he was back on the field as 10-man Bayern Munich survived second-half onslaught against PSG

Vincent Kompany admitted he “would have loved to have played” in the second-half as Bayern Munich battled to a 2-1 Champions League win over Paris Saint-Germain. The Bavarians extended their winning streak to 16 matches despite Luis Diaz’s red card, with the Belgian praising his side’s defensive resilience in one of their toughest tests of the season.

  • Bayern grind out tense win in Paris

Bayern continued their incredible unbeaten run under Kompany, defeating PSG 2-1 at the Parc des Princes to extend their winning streak to 16 games in all competitions. The reigning Bundesliga champions dominated the first half with two goals from Diaz, who struck twice inside 32 minutes to stun the French hosts. However, the Colombian’s red card for a reckless tackle on Achraf Hakimi just before half-time shifted momentum dramatically.

The European champions pulled one back through substitute Joao Neves, but Die Roten's 10 men held firm through a relentless second-half siege. The victory not only strengthened Bayern’s position atop their Champions League group but also underlined their defensive resolve, something Kompany said reminded him of his own playing days.

'I would have loved to play in that second half' – Kompany

After the match, Bayern boss Kompany reflected on the intensity of the contest and the pride he took in his team’s defensive character even joking that the atmosphere made him wish he could pull on his boots again.

“I would have loved to have played in the second half,” Kompany told . “Defending everything away and always putting pressure on the man. Every situation is dangerous, but as a defender, you’re naturally trained for these moments.”

The Belgian praised his side’s mentality under pressure, adding that the performance embodied the spirit he wants Bayern to represent: hard work, discipline, and composure even when the odds are stacked against them.

  • Kimmich and Tah hail Bayern’s ‘intensity and fight’

Midfielder Joshua Kimmich described the victory as one of the most exhausting yet rewarding nights of his career. Speaking to , the German admitted he was taken aback by the sheer tempo of the encounter.

“I have to say, that was one of the most intense halves of my career,” Kimmich said. “After 25 minutes, I looked up and thought to myself, ‘I’m going to collapse.’ It was really intense from both teams, this man-to-man pressing, constant movement, and incredible pace.”

Kimmich also lauded his team's physical edge: “We really hurt them. We were very aggressive, had a lot of very good chances, and were very physical. Paris moved around a lot in possession, their players rotated a lot, and they made frequent runs in behind. You always had to keep up. That was quite a challenge. It only got more intense in the second half."

Center-back Jonathan Tah echoed those sentiments, praising the collective effort that saw Bayern survive with 10 men: “The first half was brilliant from us. The way we approached the game, the intensity, and the number of chances we created,” he told . “The second half was simply about suffering and defending together. It’s not typical for us to have to defend extremely deep, but we showed we can do it when we have to.”

Their comments summed up a Bayern side that blended attacking dominance with a defender’s mentality – a reflection of Kompany’s growing imprint on the squad.

Focus shifts to Arsenal after Paris test

With four wins from four in the Champions League, Bayern’s attention now turns to another major test – a November 26 trip to Arsenal, where both clubs will put their perfect group-stage records on the line in a clash for top spot.

Reflecting on the upcoming encounter, Kimmich said: “Against Arsenal we can see once again where we stand, but today, especially the first half, was outstanding from us.”

Before that European showdown, The Bavarians return to Bundesliga action against Union Berlin, looking to enter the international break unbeaten. For Kompany, the message remains simple: keep momentum, keep control, and keep believing – whether defending deep or dictating play, Bayern look every bit the complete package under him.

Ollie Robinson half-century leads Durham to victory over Derbyshire Falcons

ECB Reporters Network supported by Rothesay11-Jun-2025 Durham win by 16 runsA tremendous half-century from Ollie Robinson led Durham to a 16-run victory over basement boys Derbyshire Falcons in the Vitality Blast.Durham had a nightmare start when they lost an early wicket, but Robinson’s fluent 70, a T20 best for him, helped his side to 168 for 6 amid some impressive bowling from Allah Ghazanfar (2 for 18) and Fynn Hudson-Prentice (2 for 25).Caleb Jewell (33 off 22) made early inroads into the Durham total with a display of controlled aggression, but a two-wicket over from Nathan Sowter (2 for 30) swung momentum back in Durham’s favour.Bar some resistance from Wayne Madsen (37 off 31), the Derbyshire chase didn’t get going after that and Ben Raine (3 for 21) mopped up the tail to bowl the Falcons out for 152.Durham were put in to bat by Derbyshire and it was the visitors who had a dream start with Ghazanfar bowling Alex Lees for 1.Derbyshire then cranked up the pressure further, with Graham Clark falling for 18 as he pulled a Hudson-Prentice delivery straight into the hands of Ross Whiteley on the boundary.Colin Ackermann and Robinson steadied the ship, with Robinson finding the boundary when he reverse swept an Alex Thomson ball for four and he produced the same shot two balls later.Robinson continued to motor as he hit Samit Patel for back-to-back boundaries and he then got his fifty from 32 balls, as he slammed a ball from the Falcons skipper through the offside for four.Ackermann was very much the foil to Robinson’s aggression, but the Netherlands international struggled to get going and he went for 33 as he tried to heave a Martin Andersson ball over the ropes, but Hudson-Prentice had other ideas and produced an excellent grab on the boundary.Wickets then came like buses for Derbyshire as the impressive Ghazanfar picked up Robinson, getting him lbw.Jimmy Neesham looked to kick on but he fell to Hudson-Prentice for 8, however a late flurry from Somerset loanee Kasey Aldridge helped the hosts to 168 for 6.Derbyshire’s chase of 169 got off to a decent start, with Aneurin Donald finding the boundary three times in Callum Parkinson’s first over.Jewell then backed that up with a tremendous shot for six over the fine leg boundary off the bowling of Zak Foulkes, but the New Zealand international bounced back to get Donald for 15 after he hit one straight to Aldridge at cover.Durham got their second soon after with Neesham, who was playing his 300th T20, getting Andersson for two as he chipped one straight to Aldridge at mid-on.Jewell kept on going as he carved an Aldridge ball for six and he guided his side past 50 in the powerplay, but he didn’t last much longer as the reliable Sowter forced the Australian into chopping on for 33.Sowter struck again in the same over as he got Samit Patel LBW for two and Parkinson followed that up as he made a mess of the stumps to remove Brooke Guest for 4.Madsen broke the shackles and swept Sowter for six, he then followed that with a reverse sweep for four two balls later.Derbyshire’s revival was halted by Raine who bowled Whiteley for 13, but Hudson-Prentice hit Foulkes for three consecutive fours.Madsen’s knock of 37 came to an end with Parkinson getting his second of the night and Neesham followed that up by removing Hudson-Prentice for 18.Raine then cleaned up the tail with two wickets in the final over to hand Durham their second win of the campaign.

'It's unfair!' – Man Utd receive Benjamin Sesko advice from Man City title-winner with 'cannot be asked to win games alone' message

Alvaro Negredo has blasted Manchester United's approach towards £74 million ($99.5m) striker Benjamin Sesko, warning them that expecting him to win games on his own is unfair and will only hinder his development. The Slovenian forward has been under the microscope since his big-money arrival from RB Leipzig this summer, but he has struggled to deliver the goals expected of him.

AFPSesko's struggles at Old Trafford

When United splashed out a massive fee to bring Sesko to Old Trafford, expectations were sky-high. Yet, the 22-year-old has found the going tough. In a dismal 3-1 defeat to Brentford, Sesko finally scored his first goal, but the match summed up his struggles at the club. Against Manchester City in the derby one week prior, Sesko’s performance was nothing short of alarming. With only eight passes completed and a measly three duels won out of nine, he seemed a world away from the striker who was supposed to lead the line for United.

AdvertisementNegredo wants Sesko to play with more freedom

Negredo, who has himself experienced the pressures of a big-money move, insists Sesko needs time to adapt. Speaking about the young striker’s struggles at the former goalscorer made it clear that United’s demands for instant success may be harming his game.

"Benjamin Sesko is a young player. When I played for Man City we were winning almost every match, so it was much easier for me to adapt," he said. "When you sometimes start and sometimes don't, it’s hard. When a striker scores, he always feels better about himself and contributes much more to the team due to the confidence he has in himself. Above all, it’s about patience. They are young players who still have a lot to contribute and cannot be asked to win games alone.

"I think it is unfair to give so much responsibility to such a young boy. The situation is similar for Benjamin Sesko as it was for me because he's playing. He's been playing almost every game and has scored once."

Getty Images SportAmorim's big spending not yielding results yet

Amorim threw big money into the summer transfer market, bringing in three attacking players to try and bolster the squad, in the likes of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, alongside Sesko. But the Slovenian's failure to hit the ground running has put more pressure on Amorim, especially after the £74m price tag. With the expectations mounting, the striker must be given space to improve without bearing the weight of United’s attacking hopes on his shoulders.

Time for Sesko to prove himself

With United’s next match against Sunderland on October 4, the spotlight is now firmly on Sesko to prove his worth. He’ll be desperate to silence the critics with a strong performance and help his team secure an important win. However, the pressure doesn’t end there. After the domestic clash, Sesko will turn his attention to international duty, with Slovenia set to face Kosovo and Switzerland in World Cup qualifiers on October 10 and 13. It’s a chance for him to get back to scoring ways, away from the intense spotlight of Old Trafford.

Update shared from Rangers on Russell Martin's Ibrox future before Celtic

There has been an update on the future of Rangers manager Russell Martin’s Ibrox future ahead of Sunday’s Glasgow derby against Celtic.

Martin reacts to Rangers’ “humiliating” Champions League exit

The Gers were knocked out of the Champions League on Wednesday evening after suffering an embarrassing 6-0 defeat to Club Brugge, losing 9-1 on aggregate over the two legs.

Any chance of a Rangers comeback was ended after going a goal and a man down on the evening after less than 10 minutes, with the hosts running riot for the rest of the game.

Martin, asked if he still had belief that he was the right man to take Rangers forward after the game, said:

“Yeah. I don’t think I’ve learned anything new tonight, just really hurt, really embarrassed by the defeat. It’s probably the toughest night I’ve had as head coach/manager. But it doesn’t it doesn’t change the fact that I think we can get this place going, we can get the team going.

“And as I said, progress and move forward and grow and we have an opportunity to really do that, to feel everything tonight that comes our way and accept it, because we have to with a manner of defeat and then we have a chance to really show some character and some growth and some personality and desire on Sunday.”

Sunday sees the Gers face rivals Celtic for the first time in the 2025/26 Scottish Premiership season, with Martin going on to apologise to the supporters.

The speculation regarding Martin’s Ibrox future will only increase after the Champions League defeat, but there has been an update ahead of the Glasgow derby.

Fernandez upgrade: Rangers preparing offer to sign "outstanding" £12m star

Glasgow Rangers are reportedly preparing to make an offer to sign an upgrade on Emmanuel Fernandez.

ByDan Emery Aug 27, 2025 Russell Martin sack update from Rangers before Celtic

Football Insider journalist Pete O’Rourke shared an update on Martin’s future at Rangers 24 hours before their defeat to Club Brugge.

Focusing on the game against Celtic, O’Rourke stated that ’Rangers are unlikely to react quickly and sack Martin even if he oversees a defeat’ to the Hoops at Ibrox.

Should the Gers lose to Celtic, Martin’s side will already be nine points behind their fiercest rivals after just four fixtures.

O’Rourke added that ‘the Rangers board will not make any knee-jerk decisions and still have full faith’ in the 39-year-old and that ‘the 49ers Enterprises know that it is a long-term project’.

Chelsea in late approach to hijack Liverpool's deadline move for £40m star

Chelsea have now made a late approach to hijack Liverpool’s move for an “incredible” player, with their Premier League rivals’ move recently stalling.

Maresca keen on more signings before the deadline

Enzo Maresca has once again been provided with plenty of funds to strengthen his squad this summer, and there could still be some more additions before the transfer deadline, with a new attacking midfielder and centre-back still of interest.

Having missed out on Xavi Simons to Tottenham Hotspur, the Blues are set to bring in Facundo Buonanotte on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion, while Maresca also remains keen on bolstering his options at the opposite end of the pitch.

When discussing the prospect of bringing in a new defender, the Italian said: “It is a priority for me. Levi is a fantastic player. What we achieved last season is because of him. He played a lot of games with me, I love him. We are going to miss him.”

Chelsea now in talks to sign £35m "1v1 specialist" forward alongside Lopez

The Blues could trigger the release clause for a new attacker.

ByDominic Lund Aug 31, 2025

The Blues’ current backline has made a solid start to the new campaign, shipping just one goal in their first three outings, with Josh Acheampong, Tosin Adarabioyo and Trevoh Chalobah all receiving game time, but Maresca could perhaps do with bringing in a more experienced option.

According to a report from Caught Offside, Chelsea have now made an approach to hijack Liverpool’s deal for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, who has already given the green light for a move to Anfield.

However, while the Reds are leading the race for Guehi’s signature, their deal has now stalled, with a £35m offer being knocked back by the South Londoners.

Reports from elsewhere have suggested that it may take £40m to prise the England international away from Palace, with Oliver Glasner keen to retain his services until next summer, at which point the 25-year-old’s contract will expire.

"Incredible" Guehi could be exactly what Chelsea need

With Levi Colwill set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to an ACL injury, it is little wonder Maresca wants to bring in a new centre-back before the deadline, and the Palace captain could be exactly what the Blues need.

Crucially, the former Chelsea man is now vastly experienced at Premier League level, making 134 appearances in the competition, while he has also now amassed 23 caps for the Three Lions.

Glasner has also praised the Ivory Coast-born defender for his “fantastic character”, and, having also captained Palace since the beginning of the 2024-25 season, he could make a real difference both on the pitch and in the dressing room.

As such, it is exciting news that Chelsea have made a late approach for Guehi, and they will be hoping his links to the club, and the prospect of remaining in Londonn, will give them the edge over Liverpool.

COBRANÇAS AO TIME FEMININO

Celtic see £6.9m bid rejected for 25-goal star as club set lofty valuation

Celtic are beginning to circle for key targets and could now be set to be embroiled in a high-profile chase for a prolific goalscorer, according to reports.

Celtic's striker question yet to throw up a definitive answer

Brendan Rodgers has made it crystal clear that Celtic want several options across their forward line after Kyogo Furuhashi’s departure. Meanwhile, Nicolas Kuhn moving to Como has left room for more goals to come into the side over the coming weeks.

Addressing their striker situation, the Irishman admitted Shin Yamada’s arrival from Kawasaki Frontale is just the tip of the iceberg, as he stated: “He’ll have a medical over the next couple of days and we’ll have a look at him. We’ve lost a lot of goals, so we need to replace that. Hopefully, this can be one of a number of players we can bring in that aspect.

“He’s got intensity and workrate. It’s something the scouts have seen. In terms of the club, we will bring in players to develop and players for now. Even though he’s a bit older, he’s probably one that can give us that intensity and pressure.”

Intriguingly, Rodgers has seemed to confirm the suspicion that Celtic are operating two different transfer strategies this window. On one hand, the Bhoys appear like they are trying to get ahead of the curve with ‘club’ signings, while arrivals such as Kieran Tierney come in with more of a personal touch from the manager.

Odsonne Edouard is another reported target that may fall into the latter category, albeit it is hard to envisage the Scottish Premiership champions matching his Premier League-level wages.

According to reports from iAMsport.ro, Celtic have seen an opening bid of £6.9 million turned down for CFR Cluj forward Louis Munteanu, with their owner Ioan Varga said to be holding out for a fee of £15.6 million.

Meanwhile, Ligue 1 clubs Rennes, Lille and Nice are also monitoring his situation at the Dr. Constantin Rădulescu Stadium.
