Journalist shares transfer development on Sunderland’s move for Yann M’Vila

Whilst Sunderland's main focus has seemingly been on finding attacking reinforcements throughout the January transfer window, they could yet seal the return of a player in a deal that those at The Stadium of Light deem a dream move.

Sunderland transfer news

The Black Cats' search for a striker has taken them to Sam Gallagher, Macaulay Langstaff and Kieffer Moore. According to the latest reports, it is the latter who seems the most likely, with rumours of Sunderland submitting a loan offer to Bournemouth for the Welshman's services. And although an agreement is yet to be reached with the Cherries, a first offer is certainly a step in the right direction. Away from their pursuit of attacking additions, meanwhile, the Championship play-off-hopefuls could seal the return of a midfielder who last played at The Stadium of Light in the Premier League.

According to journalist Santi Aouna, Sunderland have now made contact with the agent of Yann M'Vila over a potential move this month. A dream target for the Black Cats, M'Vila is currently without a club which makes any potential deal a simpler one to secure. Aouna posted the news on X, saying:

A boost for Sunderland is the fact that M'Vila previously spoke of his desire to return to the club, saying:

"I spoke with a lot of Ligue 1 clubs, but I didn’t get the little thing. Given my qualities and my leadership, I think I can help a lot of teams. I believe in myself. I don’t need the money. I want to play. With all the respect I have for Ligue 2, I don’t see myself playing in this championship.

“There is only one club for which I would have agreed to return to the lower division for, it is Sunderland, to help them return to the Premier League. I had an extraordinary year there."

M'Vila has unfinished business at Sunderland

After completing a season-long loan move at Sunderland during the 2015/16 campaign, helping the Black Cats to avoid Premier League relegation by two points as Newcastle United instead suffered the drop, M'Vila never got his return to The Stadium of Light. Now 33 years old, however, the defensive midfielder has the chance to complete some unfinished business.

Yann M'Vila for Sunderland.

From Michael Beale's point of view, a player with the experience of the Frenchman could quickly prove to be invaluable. What's more, M'Vila, himself, has stated his desire to play for the club, highlighting his potential commitment. In what would be a free deal, there's not much risk involved for Sunderland either, if they agree on a short-term contract.

In the best-case scenario, a player with previous Premier League experience plays to that level and helps Sunderland on their way back up to England's first tier. But if he does fail to perform, the worst-case outcome is that the Black Cats could be to simply cut ties. It seems like one that is certainly worth keeping an eye on.

Ollie Pope to miss most of 2019 season with shoulder injury

Surrey batsman suffered shoulder dislocation that will require surgery and could see him miss most of the season

ESPNcricinfo staff26-Apr-2019England’s stock of potential batting candidates for a summer that includes the World Cup and an Ashes series has been further hit by the news that Surrey’s Ollie Pope is likely to miss most of the season after dislocating his shoulder.News that Pope will require surgery on his left shoulder follows confirmation of Sam Billings, England’s likely back-up for the World Cup, being sidelined for three-five months with a similar injury.Surrey said that the club hoped Pope would be back in action “towards the back end of the current 2019 domestic season”. Pope has not been capped in limited-overs cricket but could have been in contention for England’s Test team to face Australia.A Surrey statement said: “After suffering an injury while fielding during Tuesday’s Royal London Cup victory over Essex at the Kia Oval, the 21-year-old was confirmed to have dislocated his shoulder. Having since visited a specialist, he has been advised that surgery would be the best course of action.”It is hoped he will return to first-team cricket towards the back end of the current 2019 domestic season.”Pope made his Test debut last summer, playing twice against India, and was part of the squad that toured Sri Lanka. He was subsequently released to join up with the Lions, but began the season with a career-best 251 in Surrey’s Champion County fixture against MCC.

Jamie Overton makes Northants loan move as Somerset focus on Championship push

Jamie Overton, Somerset’s highly-rated fast bowler, has joined Northamptonshire on a one-month loan deal, in a bid to guarantee him first-team action while he continues his recovery from a back injury.Though Overton has played a role in Somerset’s march to the Royal London Cup final on May 25 – for which he will remain available – the club feel that cannot guarantee him selection in four-day cricket, which resumes in earnest this week with a run of fixtures through to mid-July.And, with Somerset currently top of the table and preparing for a marquee clash against the reigning champions, Surrey, at Taunton this week, they’ve decided that the best option is to offer Overton a chance to get overs under his belt elsewhere, rather than bring him back to fitness in their own Championship campaign.”Since working his way back from an early season injury, Jamie has recently and successfully returned to First XI action in the Royal London One-Day Cup,” said Somerset’s director of cricket, Andy Hurry.”We’ve made an impressive start to this year’s County Championship, and whilst Jamie is certainly in contention for selection, we can’t guarantee him a starting place at present.”Therefore, we feel that both he and the club would benefit from him playing competitive First XI red-ball cricket.”The arrangement will run from May 14 to June 13, and means that Overton will be available for Northamptonshire’s County Championship matches against Lancashire, Sussex, Glamorgan and Durham.”The idea of having Jamie available to us is really exciting,” said David Ripley, Northants’ head coach. “He’s a Lions bowler who’s gone through the ranks very quickly and brings real pace which is something that we haven’t perhaps got in our natural group.”We’re very grateful to Somerset who are obviously playing some good cricket themselves at the moment and have a good player who they can’t get into the eleven. We’re more than happy to give him that opportunity with us.”Hurry added: “As I’ve stated previously, it’s important to us as a club to ensure that we are providing opportunities that support our player’s needs whilst considering our club’s mid-term needs.”The terms of this loan agreement will enable Jamie to be available for selection for the Royal London One-Day Cup final and return to Somerset if we incur an injury to one of our seamers.”Overton, who could yet be in contention for a Test call-up this summer, with the Ashes looming in August, recognised the value of his time away from his home club.”Obviously, I’m hungry to be playing First XI cricket and currently opportunities are limited,” he said. “When the opportunity to play First XI Championship cricket at Northants came about, I felt it was a great chance for me to show what I can do. After this loan period I’ll return to Taunton and I look forward to contributing to winning games for Somerset.”He is the second Somerset player to make a loan move this season, after Dom Bess – their spin understudy to Jack Leach – was sent to Headingley for a month’s loan with Yorkshire.

Emery could land lethal Watkins partner as Aston Villa eye swoop for £20m whiz

The January transfer window opened at the start of last week and Aston Villa have been linked with a swoop to sign an exciting young winger.

Aston Villa transfer news – Roony Bardghji

AstonVillaNews have dropped a report that states that the club are eyeing up a deal to sign Copenhagen forward Roony Bardghji before the end of the month.

The outlet claims that the Villans are in the hunt to land his signature and have sent scouts to watch him in action throughout the season already.

Kobenhavn forward Roony Bardghji.

This comes after HITC reported earlier in the week that Villa, Brentford, and Newcastle United were among the clubs who had been spoken to about his availability, with the Danish side looking for a fee within the region of £20m.

Unai Emery could now land another exciting partner for Ollie Watkins at the top end of the pitch by bringing the talented 18-year-old whiz to Villa Park.

Ollie Watkins' season in numbers

The England international has been in sublime form in the Premier League this season as both a scorer and a creator of goals for the team.

He has plundered nine top-flight goals in 20 appearances so far this term and is currently on at least three more than any of his teammates, with Douglas Luiz's return of six in second.

The 28-year-old marksman has also provided his fellow attackers with an eye-catching eight assists, which is also at least three more than any other player in the squad – ahead of Leon Bailey's five.

These statistics show that Watkins has the quality to score and assist goals at an impressive rate, and he could be a brilliant partner for Bardghji by being able to provide the young gem with the opportunities the £20m whiz needs in front of goal.

The statistics that show why Roony Bardghji is an exciting talent

Emery could land another exciting partner for his centre-forward by signing the Copenhagen star, who has been in impressive form so far this season.

The 18-year-old wizard, who was once hailed as a "magician" and an "outstanding" talent by scout Jacek Kulig, has caught the eye in the Superliga with seven goals and two 'big chances' created in 14 starts.

Meanwhile, Watkins – as aforementioned – is the only Villa player with more than six league goals this term, which suggests that Bardghji has the potential to be a fantastic goalscoring option for the club if he can translate his form over to English football.

As you can see in the table above, the teenage maestro has also showcased his quality on the biggest stage in the Champions League and scored against a Premier League side – Manchester United.

At the age of 18, the Villa target has plenty of time on his side to develop and improve over the years to come and could arrive as a player who could make a long-term impact for Emery, rather than a signing to hit the ground running.

If Bardghji could replicate, and even build on, his current form for Copenhagen then he could be a lethal partner for Watkins, who has the ability to create for the winger whilst also being able to score from the Swedish gem's creativity.

South African players' body threatens CSA with legal action

The South African Cricketers’ Association addressed a letter to the board regarding alleged breaches of agreement related to CSA’s decision radically restructure domestic cricket

The South African Cricketers Association (SACA) has threatened legal action against Cricket South Africa (CSA) over alleged breaches of agreement related to CSA’s decision to radically restructure domestic cricket. From 2021, CSA is planning to scrap the franchise system, reverting to the provincial model in domestic cricket as part of austerity measures designed to offset projected losses of R 654 million (USD 45 million approx) over the next four years. But SACA has repeatedly expressed concerns over the plan, insisting that it had not been properly consulted or given the relevant financial information regarding the challenges CSA is facing.SACA, through its lawyers, addressed a letter to CSA on Friday detailing its grievances, with SACA saying its concerns over the restructuring exercise “have simply been ignored by CSA”.ALSO READ: Explainer on CSA’s austerity measures”We reiterate our concerns around the financial position and around a decision, which has significant consequences both for the game and the players, taken without regard to our agreements and without following the consultation process specifically provided for in our Recognition Agreement,” SACA president Omphile Ramela said.”SACA cares about the financial sustainability of the game, and this is not only about what happens next year but also about the years to come. Our concerns relating to this have simply been ignored by CSA.”We also care about ensuring the best possible domestic structure for the players and the game and believe that this should be the subject of proper consultation and agreement instead of there being a decision, which will have significant consequences, forced on us and the players.”SACA’s statement marks the latest episode in a spat that has rumbled on since CSA announced the restructuring plan in early April. The relationship between the two organisations hit a new low when SACA claimed that its chief executive Tony Irish had been barred from attending a meeting at which the changes to domestic cricket were discussed. While SACA’s latest move has made clear its willingness to take legal action against CSA, Irish said the organisation is still open to engaging CSA on the relevant issues.”Our lawyers have made it clear to CSA that its failure to comply with our agreements may well lead to legal action,” Irish said. “At the same time, we are open to finding responsible solutions to the financial challenges facing cricket and to ensuring the best outcomes from a cricket point of view. We have invited CSA to engage in mediation on the issues. If CSA fails to comply and does not accept our invitation to mediate, SACA will be compelled to take the legal route.”A CSA spokesperson, meanwhile, told ESPNcricinfo it was “unfortunate that SACA chose to issue a press release as a means of communicating with CSA.” The spokesperson added that no letter had yet been received as of Friday evening. “We have noted the same this Friday evening and will respond shortly.”

Chelsea could sign "elite" £26-rated gem as long-awaited Courtois heir

While much of the 2023/24 Premier League season has been a disaster for Chelsea, three wins on the bounce, an FA Cup victory and a semi-final in the League Cup have given Mauricio Pochettino a lot to smile about in the new year.

That said, there are still a lot of problems in his team, from profligate strikers to injury-prone defenders, and then there is the club's longest-running problem area: goalkeeper.

Following the departure of Thibaut Courtois in 2018, the Blues have brought in several keepers to replace him, but each one has come up seriously short at some point or another. While Đorđe Petrović has impressed so far and Edouard Mendy looked bright for a year – bemused to find himself excluded for a Ballon d'Or nomination during his peak with the Blues – the Senegalese was ultimately unceremoniously shipped off to Saudi Arabia.

However, Todd Boehly and Co look like they might just be about to solve this problem once and for all and finally sign the Blues a proper Courtois heir.

Chelsea look to La Liga for their next great shot-stopper

According to reports from Spain, Chelsea are set to talk with Real Madrid over the future of Kepa Arrizabalaga this year as the Spaniard's loan deal approaches its conclusion.

Still, the 29-year-old is unlikely to be the only topic of discussion, as the same report has revealed that the Blues are keen on Real's promising young keeper, Andriy Lunin.

The Ukrainian has started 42% of Los Blancos' La Liga games this season as he and the on-loan Blues man battle for the number-one position, while former Chelsea star Courtois remains sidelined with an ACL injury.

It looks as if the 24-year-old is currently winning, as despite being a clear backup in the first part of the season, he has now started six of the last seven league games.

Real Madrid goalkeeperAndriy Lunin.

While this increased importance in recent weeks isn't ideal for the Pensioners, the fact that his contract is set to expire in 2025 is, and that impending deadline combined with his place in the team has seen the CIES football observatory value him at around £26m, which for such a talented shot-stopper would be a steal.

How Andriy compares to Chelsea's current keepers

The closest Chelsea have got to replacing Courtois over the last few years was during Mendy's first 18 months or so at the club, but as it has already been mentioned, he was sold to the Saudi Pro League last summer after his form collapsed, and he lost his spot in the starting XI.

In his place came Sanchez and Petrović, with the former taking up the number one role and the young Serb plying his trade as his understudy, although since filling in for the injured Spaniard he's looked much better.

That said, the jump in quality between the Blues' current shot-stoppers and Lunin is indeed vast, with talent scout Jacek Kulig describing the Real ace as "amazingly talented."

This praise isn't hyperbole, though, and when comparing his underlying numbers with the Chelsea pair, it becomes abundantly clear just how much better he is.

For example, he has conceded just 0.50 goals per 90 this season compared to 1.18 for Petrović and 1.57 for Sanchez. What makes that even more impressive is that, according to post-shot expected goals, the "elite" 24-year-old, as described by data analyst Ben Mattinson, should have conceded almost double at 0.89, a far more impressive overperformance than the other two.

He also has a much better save percentage and comes out to intercept crosses more often, suggesting that he could adapt to a sweeper-keeper role if Pochettino wanted to persist with that.

Chelsea could sign "the best no.9 in the world" over Ivan Toney

The 36-year-old could be a game-changer for the Blues.

ByJack Salveson Holmes Jan 18, 2024

Ultimately, Sanchez is not good enough for Chelsea – that much is clear – and while Petrović could well kick on, it makes far more sense to sign Lunin and finally lock down a talent suitable to be Courtois' heir.

Wolves may "soon" make move for "exceptional" Union SG star Mohamed Amoura

Wolverhampton Wanderers could soon add a free-scoring striker to their ranks in January as Gary O'Neil seeks to add more dynamism to his attack, according to a report.

Wolves prepare for Brentford

On Christmas Eve, Wolves pulled off a stunning 2-1 victory over Chelsea at Molineux as goals from Mario Lemina and Matt Doherty rendered a Christopher Nkunku reply for the visitors as nothing more than a consolation.

As a result, the Old Gold now find themselves further away from the relegation zone as their quietly impressive run of form at home in the Premier League continues to roll on, with O'Neil's men now seven games without defeat in the West Midlands.

Wolves have expressed interest in signing "dangerous" new player for O'Neil

The club may face competition to sign the man in question…

BySean Markus Clifford Dec 24, 2023

Speaking in his post-match press conference, the 40-year-old praised his side's ability to handle the threat of Mauricio Pochettino's outfit despite a bout of illness among the squad leading to several absences, as he stated cited, via The Daily Mail: "It was a tough day for us with a call from the doctor this morning around illnesses. I had to call up some young lads last minute to make up the squad.

"Going against what Chelsea had, especially late on in the game, I thought it might have been tricky for us once we started to tire. But the lads manage to produce another fantastic performance here in front of the home fans and we deserved the win really."

Next up for Wolves is a trip to Brentford and an opportunity to brush up on their slightly more erratic results away from home soil; nevertheless, they will also have an eye on January and could now target a new centre-forward, according to a report.

Wolves "could soon" bring in Mohamed Amoura

According to reports in Algeria, translated by Sport Witness, Wolves "could soon" bring Union SG striker Mohamed Amoura to Molineux to join compatriot Rayan Ait-Nouri, following the former's excellent showings in the Jupiler Pro League this term. The outlet claim that the 23-year-old's "exceptional" pace is the "perfect fit" for O'Neil.

Wolves could do with another body across the front line in January, especially when factoring in that striking pair Sasa Kalajdzic and Fabio Silva may move on in January in search of regular minutes elsewhere, as per The Telegraph.

In the event this occurs, acquiring Amoura would help to provide a clinical edge in attack for the Old Gold as they aim to progress up the Premier League table under O'Neil's stewardship.

Segundo o meia, a sensação é ‘”incrível”.

Futebol te exige manter a regularidade pra você estar sempre no topo.

Vou sempre procurar evoluir pra manter minha regularidade – concluiu.
