Real Madrid’s Takefusa Kubo revealed why he joined the club

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

Takefusa Kubo is one of Real Madrid’s biggest talents at the moment. And the 18-year-old prodigy recently talked to Marca and discussed all the details of his career, his past and his big move to the Spanish capital.

What did he say?

Kubo joined Los Blancos in the last summer transfer window and arrived as one of the brightest young talents in the world.

Dubbed as the ‘Japanese Messi’, the 18-year-old player spent the pre-season with Real Madrid before heading out on loan to Mallorca, where he currently plays his football.

But interestingly enough, Kubo revealed what exactly convinced him to sign for the Galacticos, especially considering his past ventures with none other than Barcelona.

It seems that the royal Whites had a clear plan for his future and that their sporting project was the very thing that sealed the deal in the end.

Here’s what he said in full:

“I really liked Real Madrid’s goal in a sporting sense, the plan they had for me for the next few years, and what they thought about me for the future. Real Madrid were clear that they wanted to sign me. They showed me the plan they had for my career and I really liked it; that convinced me.”

Real Madrid 1-0 Barcelona

It’s always a big victory when you manage to snatch one of the biggest talents out there, but what makes this particular triumph that much sweeter is the sour aftertaste it leaves in Barcelona’s mouths.

After all, Kubo was their big asset, having joined La Masia in 2011 and stayed there until 2015, but Barcelona’s transfer ban meant that the youngster had to abandon Catalonia and move back to his homeland.

Watch Lionel Messi and Gareth Bale answer the internet’s weirdest questions in the video below…

Four years later, here he is, donning the royal white kit of Real Madrid and doing so with pride.

But what will hurt Barcelona the most is the fact that their biggest rivals seemingly had a better long-term project in place, which ultimately made the difference with Kubo’s signature.

After all, Marca do mention that the likes of Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain tried luring him away from Madrid.

Even though the now 18-year-old didn’t mean any disrespect to the Blaugrana, this is very much a big blow to their overall plan and policy, and Kubo’s revelation will surely sting..

And now that Real Madrid hold all the cards in their hands, they can use the ‘Japanese Messi’ to start their revolution.

The ball is in their court. Let’s see how they play it.

Leicester star James Maddison proves his desire for success is as strong as ever

At 22-years-old and with three direct Premier League goal contributions to his name this season, James Maddison is a key element of Leicester City’s excellent team.Maddison could’ve quite easily let his form slip after rumours emerged, which Brendan Rodgers addressed last month, that Manchester United were monitoring his progress as they search for a new attacking threat. However, the rising star has done anything but, and that’s got to please Leicester fans, who will really feel they’re on the precipice of something special with Rodgers and his band of youthful talent.Watch Leicester City Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

In fact, if his latest interview is anything to go by, it sounds as if Maddison’s desire for the game, and more importantly his desire to achieve with the Foxes, is as strong as ever…

Leicester currently sit in third position and travel to Rodgers’ old stomping ground, Anfield, to face Liverpool at the weekend.

Arsenal fans want Joe Willock to start against Manchester United

What team will Unai Emery choose to face Manchester United on Monday?

Arsenal travel to Old Trafford in search of a fourth successive victory, and they will fancy their chances against a side that lost 2-0 to West Ham in their last Premier League match and were also taken to penalties by League One team Rochdale in the League Cup last week.

Joe Willock could be amongst those to be given the nod after some impressive performances in the last few fixtures. He was on the scoresheet against both Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League and Nottingham Forest in the League Cup. After much promise, the 20-year-old is finally getting his chance this season, having already made seven appearances.

Nottingham Forest fans hoping for Zach Clough comeback after Under-23s goal

[ad_pod ]

Nottingham Forest manager Sabri Lamouchi had a bit of a fire sale on deadline day last week.

Arvin Appiah departed for pastures new in Spain with the club landing an £8m fee in the process while Liam Bridcutt, Jason Cummings and Daryl Murphy all dropped a division into League One.

The Frenchman probably would have liked to see a few more leave the club, but it wasn’t to be.

One of those is Zach Clough, who has become quite the outcast at the City Ground.

The 24-year-old joined the club in January 2017 from Bolton Wanderers and has only made 31 appearances, scoring four times.

Within a year he was back on loan at the Trotters and spent the duration of last season at Rochdale, where he netted just one goal in 13 appearances.

This week, Clough was named in Forest’s Under-23 side to face Ipswich Town’s Under-23s, and he bagged a goal in the 3-1 victory, which has led to several supporters talking him up on social media.

One member of the Reds faithful joked that it was the start of the biggest personal comeback since Noel Edmonds started Deal or No Deal.

Another fan hopes the £3m man has got his career back on track, labelling him a “great player” on his day while a further supporter believes he has been short of confidence because of a lack of game time.

West Ham not intending to rush into free agent market

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

West Ham have no plans to sign a free agent following Javier Hernandez’s departure from the club, per ClaretandHugh.

What’s the word?

The Hammers sold Chicharito to Sevilla on Monday, the final day of the Spanish transfer window.

It means that manager Manuel Pellegrini is left with summer signings Sebastian Haller and Albian Ajeti as his out-and-out forward options.

Indeed, the Irons also allowed Marko Arnautovic, Andy Carroll, Jordan Hugill and Lucas Perez to leave the club in the summer.

But ClaretandHugh reports that the Irons have little interest in bringing in another striker on a free transfer outside of the usual market.

Makes sense

There is very little value out there when it comes to players who could actually add some genuine quality to the team.

Wilfried Bony is available, the former Swansea City and Manchester City striker, but the fact that he is without a club should set alarm bells ringing.

The same goes for pretty much every free agent out there; the Hammers have done good business in bringing in Haller and Ajeti and they will have to trust that they are both good enough.

Indeed, sources at the club have told Football FanCast that they have confidence in Andriy Yarmolenko’s ability to play through the middle, while Michail Antonio will also be able to fill in once he returns from injury.

There is no need to rush into a panic buy.

Newcastle: Jacob Murphy heads out on loan

Newcastle United have confirmed that Jacob Murphy has secured a season-long loan to Sheffield Wednesday.

[ad_pod ]

The 24-year-old completed his move on transfer deadline day, having spent the second half of last season on loan at West Bromwich Albion.

Murphy spent the first half of last season at St. James’ Park, but only managed three league starts and six substitute appearances, making one assist, as per WhoScored.

During the second half of the campaign, he made nine Championship starts and six substitute appearances in a West Brom shirt, scoring twice and assisting once.

He also made 0.6 key passes, 1.1 dribbles and 0.3 crosses per game for the Baggies – while his form was okay, it wasn’t the sort of showing that would help him force his way back into the Newcastle side.

His chances were made even slimmer when Allan Saint-Maximin, who will likely play on the wing, signed for the Magpies this summer.

While it would have been better for Newcastle to sell Murphy on a permanent basis, with his future at the club looking bleak, getting him out on loan is the next best option.

Murphy has failed to make any real impact at St. James’ Park, so loaning him out to a club where he should be able to get more game time is good for him, as it should mean the 24-year-old can start showing what he can do again.

Newcastle fans, is this a good move for Murphy? Tell us what you think in the comment section below!

West Ham fans gutted after latest Gomez twist

[ad_pod ]

West Ham United fans have been left gutted after Sky Sports reported that Maxi Gomez would not be joining the Hammers.

The Celta Vigo striker has been a target of the Irons for some time and Football FanCast sources understand that manager Manuel Pellegrini specifically requested the signing of the Uruguay international.

Director of Football Mario Husillos attempted to do a deal but there was a nagging feeling, per those sources, that Gomez wished to remain in Spain.

That has now seemingly been confirmed, with Sky Sports claiming that he will complete a switch to Valencia in the coming days instead of making the move to east London.

The news comes as a significant blow after reports also claimed that Salomon Rondon, who was the subject of a bid from the Irons earlier this summer, would likely be moving to China.

Add to that the fact that Aleksandar Mitrovic, a target at the beginning of the transfer window, has signed a new contract at Fulham and it all adds up to a rather beleaguered picture for Irons fans.

They have been left with just Javier Hernandez and Jordan Hugill as their striking options ahead of the 2019/20 season.

And fans have been quick to vent their displeasure on Twitter after Sky’s latest update, with many aiming their fury towards co-owners David Gold and David Sullivan.

Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil shares an Instagram snap with Megan Rapinoe

[ad_pod ]

The Gunners are tearing through their 2019 summer pre-season schedule and after three games, Unai Emery’s troops have already got three wins under their belts.

But now, after they’ve dealt with Fiorentina in Charlotte, they’re awaiting their final challenge in the United States as the biggest game looms just around the corner.

Arsenal will face Real Madrid to put the finishing touches on the US their tour before, not long after that, heading back into the Premier League grind come early August.

Naturally, they’ve met a real plethora of icons and superstars while touring the land across the ocean. Mesut Ozil even met with Megan Rapinoe, the US’s most recognised female footballer and recent world champion.

He quickly shared an Instagram story with her to celebrate.

Of course, this would’ve been a gigantic meet-up even if the context wasn’t so funny.

Just last week Ozil changed his hair colour after allegedly losing a bet with Alexandre Lacazette, and has since been compared to Rapinoe because of that.

Upon seeing the Gunner and his new style, Rapinoe couldn’t help but agree herself so she captioned the snap with “Game recognise game… Hair game, that is”.

Appointing Steve Walsh would be a huge mistake for Man Utd

[ad_pod ]

According to Sky Sports, Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson has urged the club to appoint Steve Walsh in a “consultancy role to help with structural changes” at the club.

What’s the word?

The report claims despite Ferguson’s recommendation, executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward looks set to ignore the former United boss’ advice and still favours bringing in a former player of the club for the role.

The Old Trafford side have been on the lookout for a sporting director according to reports in recent months but if Woodward gets his way, then it appears the experienced option of Walsh might not be the man to get the job.

Sir Alex has got this one wrong

Walsh was the head of recruitment at Leicester when they performed the miracle to end all miracles and clinched the Premier League title in the 2015/2016 campaign. He was credited with the signings of both N’golo Kante and Riyad Mahrez, who were later sold for substantial profits.

Could Harry Maguire be on his way to Old Trafford? Check out the video below to see why it would make so much sense…

But since that incredible season there has been some major question marks over Walsh’s effectiveness at the job. His move to Everton in 2017 saw the Toffees spend around £150m on new players, only to find themselves in the relegation zone by October.

Signings like Davy Klaassen for £23.6m were the absolute symbol of the scattergun approach Everton seemed to have in the transfer market. After Romelu Lukaku left, the Merseyside club needed a striker. They failed to really address that glaring issue and looked totally inept up front all season because of it.

United are in dire need of someone to reconnect the club’s fanbase. For that reason, Woodward is right in wanting a former player who knows the club well instead of Walsh.

The Old Trafford fans would give a former hero some patience even if things get off to a rocky start – just look at how they’ve taken to Solskjaer despite the side’s difficult end to last season.

The likes of Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho were brought to Old Trafford despite claims they may have been past their best and neither really worked out.

Walsh may have been great at Leicester a few seasons ago, but there’s a feeling that his time at Goodison Park may have been the end of the road; United just simply can’t afford to look at the past once more when they desperately need to dream about the future.
