Liverpool fans discuss Kylian Mbappe choosing the Reds as his go-to club on FIFA

[ad_pod ]

In an exclusive interview with Kylian Mbappe by Ahora o Nunca ESPN, the Paris Saint-Germain striker revealed that Liverpool would be his go-to club on FIFA, citing their status as Champions League winners as his reason – the youngster also said that he thinks Jurgen Klopp is ‘good’.

Of course, this doesn’t mean that the French international will be moving to Anfield, but a lot of Liverpool fans on Twitter have been discussing his comments with a mixture of excitement, confusion and hope.

Some have pleaded with Mbappe to stop teasing them, and the situation has only been made more antagonising after a number of tiny incidents led some other fans to believe that the 20-year-old may be signing for them.

If the Reds were to sign the former Monaco man it would presumably see a new world-record fee spent given the fact that PSG splashed £166m on the precocious youngster, and they could arguably charge double given the change in the market since then.

It seems extremely unlikely, but that hasn’t stopped the Liverpool fans on Twitter chatting about Mbappe’s comments…

Liverpool fans react as Naby Keita suffers injury blow at Africa Cup of Nations

[ad_pod ]

Having joined Liverpool from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig, Naby Keita arrived ready to become a mainstay of the Reds’ first-team.

After being phased into the side by Jurgen Klopp, the 24-year-old really began to shine and offered the Reds some much-needed creativity and goal threat from midfield.

However, after pulling up with an injury in the 3-0 defeat to Barcelona, Keita’s involvement in his country’s Africa Cup of Nations this summer was in jeopardy, but was seemingly rushed into action for the tournament.

Now, Guinea have confirmed (via Foot 224) that Keita suffered shin and thigh injuries during the 1-0 defeat to Nigeria and that he has been ruled out of their game against Burundi on Sunday.

After hearing that their midfielder had fallen to a fresh injury blow, Liverpool fans took to Twitter to vent their frustrations and seemed to point the finger at Guinea’s hierarchy for failing to take care of Keita.

Indeed, many begged the question as to why the former Leipzig man was even on the trip in the first place and suggested he should have been given adequate time to recover from his injury at the Camp Nou.

Everton fans react as Sandro edges towards exit

[ad_pod ]

Lots of Everton fans have been reacting to a possible summer exit, as Sandro Ramirez has been linked with another return to Spain.

According to Sky Sports, the striker is in talks over a move to Real Valladolid.

Reports in Spain (via Sport Witness) broke the news on Tuesday morning, with one journalist claiming Sandro’s switch to Valladolid is getting “closer and closer”.

The 23 year-old has played just 16 times for Everton’s first-team after joining in the summer of 2017, and he has since been loaned out to Sevilla and Real Sociedad.

He hasn’t exactly set the world alight during those two loan spells either, not registering a single goal in 44 combined appearances between the two clubs. This is clearly a striker bereft of even the smallest shred of confidence.

And while many fans are happy to see the back of him, others are worrying whether it’s a permanent or loan deal – the reports say it is not yet clear if the move is permanent.

Nikola Milenkovic can be a great Maguire alternative for Man Utd

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s In Numbers series, which takes a statistical look at performances, season-long form and reported transfer targets…

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Manchester United have made an enquiry for Fiorentina centre-back Nikola Milenkovic and are interested in signing him this summer.

Reports in January earlier this year had spoke of United’s desire to bring the Serbia international to Old Trafford, but the Red Devils did not manage to pull off a deal.

It now appears however that the Red Devils are keen to revive their interest in the 21-year-old.

Watch how to cross the road like a boss with freestyler Ben Nuttall in the video below…

And with suggestions that United’s prime defensive target Harry Maguire could cost upwards of £70m, a move for Milenkovic may make just as much sense financially as it does footballing wise.

Standing at 6 foot 5, Milenkovic is a towering presence in the Viola’s backline; indeed, his height makes him taller than Maguire by an inch. The profile that United are looking for in the two is evident; physically dominant centre-halves who couple the art of old school defending with a real modern day quality of playing out from the back.

Despite playing in a Fiorentina side that finished just above the relegation zone in Serie A, Milenkovic enjoyed a fine personal campaign. The Serbian averaged 1.7 tackles and 1.4 interceptions per game, which comfortably betters Maguire’s total of 1 tackle and 1.2 interceptions per game in the Premier League.

Both are strong and decisive in the tackle but show a willingness to get in front of their man to pinch the ball off them high up the pitch. It’s the kind of front-foot defending United need if they are to fully embrace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s desire to dominate games next season.

Whilst both are comfortable enough on the ball, the disparity between the number of long balls played by the two is startling and is a reflection of how Fiorentina and Leicester typically play. The Italian side look to build out from the back and Milenkovic plays a key role in drifting slightly wider to open up passing lanes to the winger.

The Foxes on the other hand have notoriously been a counter-attacking side and Maguire’s 6.2 long balls per game can be attributed to their desire to get Jamie Vardy clean through on goal as quickly as possible.

Whilst Maguire might be Premier League proven, Milenkovic’s age, physical profile and confidence on the ball could make him an intriguing alternative to the England international for United this summer.

West Ham fans gutted after latest Gomez twist

[ad_pod ]

West Ham United fans have been left gutted after Sky Sports reported that Maxi Gomez would not be joining the Hammers.

The Celta Vigo striker has been a target of the Irons for some time and Football FanCast sources understand that manager Manuel Pellegrini specifically requested the signing of the Uruguay international.

Director of Football Mario Husillos attempted to do a deal but there was a nagging feeling, per those sources, that Gomez wished to remain in Spain.

That has now seemingly been confirmed, with Sky Sports claiming that he will complete a switch to Valencia in the coming days instead of making the move to east London.

The news comes as a significant blow after reports also claimed that Salomon Rondon, who was the subject of a bid from the Irons earlier this summer, would likely be moving to China.

Add to that the fact that Aleksandar Mitrovic, a target at the beginning of the transfer window, has signed a new contract at Fulham and it all adds up to a rather beleaguered picture for Irons fans.

They have been left with just Javier Hernandez and Jordan Hugill as their striking options ahead of the 2019/20 season.

And fans have been quick to vent their displeasure on Twitter after Sky’s latest update, with many aiming their fury towards co-owners David Gold and David Sullivan.

Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa gets his own way as Samu Saiz seals move away

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

Leeds United confirmed on Wednesday that midfielder Samu Saiz had completed a permanent move to La Liga side Girona for an undisclosed fee, with manager Marcelo Bielsa ultimately getting his own way.

What’s the word, then?

Football Insider reported earlier on Wednesday that the 28-year-old Spaniard had been trying to secure a move back to his homeland all summer following the expiry of his loan spell with Getafe, but it proved to be a struggle to find a club willing to meet his £6m asking price.

They went on to say that an exit for a cut-price fee was on the cards, and Bielsa should be pleased that it has now all been confirmed.

Watch Leeds United Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

The same source said last month that the Argentine had no intention of re-integrating Saiz into the Leeds squad on his return, after he chose to jump ship halfway through the 2018/19 campaign.

Bielsa shows his authority again

The 63-year-old isn’t someone that could be labelled indecisive and he knows what he wants, as proved by his stance on the whole Australian tour. And while he admitted he hadn’t made the direct decision to let the Spaniard leave Elland Road back in December, he clearly feels that it wouldn’t have benefitted the Yorkshire outfit if they had him back now.

Watch fans explain why the Football League is better than the Premier League in the video below…

It may be a ruthless call in some ways given the level of performance Saiz has shown previously – five goals and five assists from his opening 18 Championship appearances is proof of that – but there is no point having a homesick player in a team that wants to be promoted next season having fallen short last time out.

Leeds need everyone in positive mood and pulling in the same direction, and in that respect it is clear to see why Bielsa has got his own way.

Tottenham fans thrilled at prospect of keeping Eriksen and signing Lo Celso

[ad_pod ]

Tottenham Hotspur fans are thrilled with the prospect of signing Giovani Lo Celso from Real Betis and keeping Christian Eriksen at the club.

Sky Sports News journalist Michael Bridge reported on Tuesday that the club’s pursuit of Lo Celso was not linked to the Denmark international’s future.

Bridge said: “Here’s the key for Spurs – it won’t be him or Eriksen, it could be him and Eriksen.”

Indeed, Eriksen outlined his intention to take on a new challenge in the aftermath of the Champions League final but has thus far attracted no bids from the likes of Real Madrid and Juventus.

It means that he could remain at the club for the 2019/20 season, with Lo Celso another target.

The Betis star, per the Daily Mirror, is wanted for a fee that could reach £60m.

That deal would be in addition to the acquisition of Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele, for a club-record fee.

And Spurs fans are drooling over the prospect of having two gifted playmakers in their squad for next season.

West Brom’s first starting XI under Slaven Bilic predicted

[ad_pod ]

The football season is back. For West Brom, their main aim this season will surely be to achieve promotion.

Albion come into this new campaign with a fresh face in charge of their side as Slaven Bilic takes the reins following Darren Moore and Jimmy Shan’s time at the club in 2018/19.

West Brom have also added a host of new faces to their squad, all of whom could feature on the opening weekend.

Have a look below at who we’re predicting to start for the Baggies against Nottingham Forest on Saturday evening…

The main concern for Bilic going into the game with Forest is in defence. They are without Ahmed Hegazi who is going to be absent through injury following the Africa Cup of Nations.

Aside from that, Albion will have essentially what is a fully fit squad to chose from.

Their new manager has previously stated his desire to play with two strikers in attack but their lack of options dictates that may not be possible.

As a result, we’re predicting new signing Kenneth Zohore to lead the line, the first of five potential debutants.

Among those are defenders Semi Ajayi and Darnell Furlong whilst Romaine Sawyers and Filip Krovinovic are likely to feature in midfield.

Ajayi played in a holding role for Rotherham at times in 2018/19 but with no Hegazi, he may well be placed in defence instead.

Perhaps the biggest predicament facing Bilic is out wide.

Oliver Burke is now back at the club but the Croatian boss has been speaking highly of Kyle Edwards, suggesting that he’s ready to feature. Matt Phillips has been in good form in pre-season, scoring twice against Scunthorpe so could play on the right.

19-year-old Rekeem Harper signed a new deal this summer and may start in a partnership with another former academy man in Sawyers.

Rangers fans react to Brandon Barker signing

[ad_pod ]

Brandon Barker has become the ninth signing of the summer for Rangers, and plenty of fans are delighted with their latest recruit.

Barker joins the club from Manchester City on a three-year deal, having been on loan at Championship side Preston last season.

It won’t be the 22-year-old’s first stint in Scotland, as he previously enjoyed a temporary spell at Hibs, scoring twice and setting up a further five in his 30 appearances in the capital.

The ex-Manchester City man isn’t the first winger to be brought to the club this summer though, as Steven Gerrard has looked to increase his quality out wide. Sheyi Ojo, Jake Hastie, Greg Stewart and Jordan Jones have all arrived as the Liverpool legend goes in search of his first managerial silverware.

And the supporters are delighted with the addition of Barker, even if they haven’t always felt that way about the young winger.

Upon hearing that he was nearing a deal to come to Ibrox, the fans weren’t particularly excited. Yet, it seems that they’ve changed their minds and look forward to seeing the wide-man in the Gers strip this campaign.

Here’s how the excited supporters reacted on Twitter…

Jack Grealish is Aston Villa’s one to watch this season

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s One to Watch series, which focuses on those players we think are particularly worth keeping an eagle-eye on as the 2019/20 season unfolds.

Jack Grealish captained his beloved Aston Villa back to the Premier League last season after three seasons in the second-tier of English football. The young midfielder was in the midst of his breakthrough years back when Villa were in the elite tier of English football, but a lot has changed since then.

What’s the story so far?

The 2014/15 campaign signalled Grealish’s breakthrough.

The Villa youngster was selected sporadically and his appearances were predominantly made as a substitute prior to Tim Sherwood’s arrival, but the new manager was eager to get the playmaker involved and he was a regular in the starting XI from April until the season reached its conclusion.

The dreaded drop did come a year later, though, as Villa, who at this point had parted with several managers, dropped into the Championship. Grealish continued to play a key role and was instrumental in their run to the playoff final that they agonisingly lost to Fulham.

However, the pain didn’t last too much longer, as Dean Smith arrived and put together a wonderful end-of-season run of form that saw the side climb into the top six – with Grealish’s influence a driving force all the while – and win the multi-million pound prize of promotion at Wembley.

What’s 2019/20 got in store for Grealish?

Grealish will be captaining a new-look squad in a gruelling and punishing Premier League campaign but the Villa star is no stranger to the demands of the top flight.

His job is not only to be the playmaker-in-chief but also to be a leader of men and his ability to influence the dressing room will naturally be a determining factor in Villa’s season.

The spotlight will be on Grealish, and that’s what makes him the one to watch for Villa.

He’s got to raise his level as both a captain and player.

He’s performed in the Championship but the question on everyone’s mind will concern his ability to emulate that type of form at the highest level?

The pressure is firmly on a young-man who’s carrying the weight of responsibility that is typically bestowed upon a player five years his senior.

Watch Aston Villa Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

What would constitute a good season for Grealish?

After returning to the Premier League you’d assume a newly promoted side would aim to consolidate their position in the so-called promised land.

However, with Villa’s summer spending sitting just shy of the £134m mark, much bigger things will be expected of Grealish and his teammates.

A good season for the local-born star would see him replicate his form from last season, lead Villa comfortably to safety and put himself in contention for Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2020 squad – if England qualify, of course.

All eyes will be on Grealish this season both inside and outside of Villa park.

A successful season would consist of (all competitions)

Appearances: 40

Starts: 38

Goals: 9

Assists: 7
