Transfer update: Everton to make serious move to sign "outstanding" player

Things are finally starting to look up for Sean Dyche and Everton, who picked up their first home win of the Premier League season against Bournemouth on Saturday. It was a superb display from the Toffees, as they dismantled their opponents, easing to a 3-0 victory.

The win over Bournemouth eased some panic, but Dyche appears to have a keen eye on the January transfer window, in which he may hope to secure some much-needed reinforcements. Among those additions could be one particular Championship star, with reports suggesting that Everton are set to make a serious move.

Latest Everton transfer news…

During the summer, whilst the Toffees were limited in their spending due to Financial Fair Play concerns, they still managed to welcome the likes of Youssef Chermiti, Jack Harrison, Beto and Arnaut Danjuma in an attempt to steer clear of relegation trouble.

Following the recent investment of 777 Partners, too, Dyche could be handed a significant boost in funds, allowing the manager to splash the cash. With that said, reliable reporter Alan Nixon has issued an Adam Wharton transfer update, relayed by Goodison News, stating that Everton are long-term fans of the midfielder, and are set to make a serious move for the player's services in the new year.

The Merseyside club are reportedly not alone in their interest, however, with Newcastle United, Brighton & Hove Albion and Crystal Palace also in the race to secure the Blackburn Rovers midfielder's signature. And if Wharton's current club, who are in the bottom half of the Championship, aren't in the mix for promotion come January, they could be forced to bid farewell to their youngster, according to Nixon.

How good is Adam Wharton?

adam-wharton-blackburn-rovers-transfer-opinion-jude-bellingham-eddie-howe-premier-league

At just 19 years of age, Wharton is a permanent fixture in the Blackburn Rovers side, starting in nine of their 10 Championship games so far this season and providing one assist. It comes as little surprise that he has earned such high praise, as a result, with Nixon previously labelling the midfielder as "outstanding" reporting Everton's initial interest:

Statistically speaking, Wharton has caugt the eye many at the heart of Blackburn's midfield, with his place in the top percentile of key areas making him a standout in the Championship, as per FBref.

With that said, it's clear that if Everton can push on and secure Wharton's signature, then they may have themselves a player capable of impacting both their present and their future, but with potential competition from Newcastle and Brighton, both of who are currently in the Champions League and Europa League respectively, then a deal may be tricky.

Chelsea: TalkSport pundit says youngster will become "key"

Chelsea have been told there is a "versatile" youngster in their ranks who could end up being "key" for manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Chelsea form this season

The Blues haven't exactly got off to their dream Premier League start, but recent results suggest that they may well be on the up. Before a recent 2-0 win over Fulham at Craven Cottage, Chelsea hadn't scored a league goal since August, with criticism mounting on Pochettino and the west Londoners.

They had tasted defeat at the hands of West Ham, Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa, while also dropping points at home to Liverpool and away at Bournemouth. However, they've now clinched three successive wins in all competitions; securing much-needed victories over Brighton in the EFL Cup as well as Fulham and a demolition of Vincent Kompany's Burnley in the league.

“Always when you concede first and you need to break down the opponent always you feel proud when you achieve that,” Pochettino said after their Burnley 1-4 Chelsea at Turf Moor.

“The team were playing well and with the chances conceded in a situation that was completely unfair, but the team were really good, solid, the whole team. We want to improve players and try to recover the players that were injured,” Pochettino said when asked what he wanted to take from the next fortnight. The next two weeks we’re going to spend working on the training ground with a different mood from the last months.

“After two victories it is much better but I think we will keep pushing, working hard to be better in the next months.”

Chelsea next take on title-contenders Arsenal at Stamford Bridge, which will make a very interesting encounter, as both sides go into the contest on a recent run of good form.

Chelsea news – Levi Colwill

Following his 2022/2023 loan spell at Brighton, one player to have come on leaps and bounds this season is young defender Levi Colwill. The 20-year-old, who's started all eight of Chelsea's league matches so far, also earned a call-up for the England national team; featuring at left-back in their 1-0 friendly win over Australia on Friday evening.

Colwill played the whole 90 minutes of England's victory over the Socceroos, with talkSPORT pundit Darren Bent now tipping him to become a "key" player.

“Levi Colwill, really like him," said Bent.

"He’ll be 25 [at Euro 2028]. Good player. I think he is doing well at Chelsea, he can play left-back and left-centre-half. He’s versatile. I think he’ll get better with that [in Chelsea’s struggles]. I genuinely believe with this transition, he will be a key part of that transition.”

Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi, speaking after Brighton's 3-0 win over Arsenal last season, also hailed Colwill's bravery as a player.

“I think the best example of courage was Colwill in this game," said De Zerbi (The Argus).

“We defended man-to-man and Colwill’s man was Odegaard. Colwill went 90 minutes to defend with Odegaard 80 metres from Jason Steele. This is courage.”

West Ham could now replace Soucek with £35m-rated Italian "dominator"

West Ham United have finally rediscovered some stability in the Premier League after an inconsistent campaign left them all too close to the relegation zone last season. David Moyes' side have used their Europa Conference League win as a springboard for further success, maintaining that form in domestic action, as well as enjoying a successful start in the Europa League, winning both of their group games so far.

From here, the only way has to be up – the London club can't afford to take their foot off the gas when things are going well like they have done in the past. Instead, they have the opportunity to kick on and improve even further, something that one particular star could help with next summer.

West Ham transfer news

The Hammers spent well in the summer transfer window, welcoming the likes of Mohammed Kudus, Edson Alvarez and James Ward-Prowse, who have all hit the ground running at the London Stadium. The credit deserves to go to the recruitment team for improving away from the pitch, allowing for the arrival of upgrades on the pitch.

They won't want to stop there, either, with both January and next summer representing a chance for West Ham to go up another level or two. The latest Manuel Locatelli transfer news suggests that he could be one of those upgrades, too. According to Calciomercato, if Tomas Soucek leaves West Ham next summer, then they could move for the Juventus midfielder, who is valued at €40m (£35m).

Given that Soucek just signed a new deal at the London Stadium, extending his contract until 2028, a move now seems more unlikely for the Czech Republic international. But, if Locatelli becomes available, it wouldn't exactly be a bad move for West Ham to pursue the Italian as an upgrade next summer.

Manuel Locatelli is a "dominator" in midfield

Locatelli has been enjoying his football at Juventus this season, starting in all nine Serie A games, and even netting the winning goal in his side's most recent victory over AC Milan. With Juventus just two points adrift of Inter Milan at the top of the league, too, there's every chance that the Italian could play an important part in a title race this season.

Locatelli's stats, compared to Soucek, are certainly impressive, too, as per FBref, with the Juventus man outperforming the Czech in most areas.

His performances have earned deserved praise, including from Football Talent Scout's Jacek Kulig, who posted on X: "Fantastic performance by Manu Locatelli. A real dominator in midfield."

With that said, Locatelli would be an ideal arrival for West Ham next summer if Soucek leaves. The Italian is still only 25-years-old, and a move to the Premier League would only turn him into an even better player, such is the level that England's top flight currently operates at. It's still early days, however, and the summer transfer window is currently a long way off, so fans may simply be keen to keep an eye on the Italy international from afar for now.

Fulham given "major lift" in transfer race to sign "quick" star for Silva

A report this week has suggested that Fulham may have been given a "major lift" in their pursuit of a Marco Silva transfer target.

Ambitious Fulham seek to climb

The Whites have been making some serious strides off-the-field recently as they aim to climb up the Premier League table and potentially challenge in cup competitions. Last month, Fulham secured a real boost in this respect by tying down head coach Silva with a brand new contract which will run until 2026.

The Portuguese was attracting rumoured interest from the likes of Spurs, before they appointed Ange Postecoglou, but now any interested side won't have the leverage of an expiring contract to try and sway him away from Craven Cottage.

"It's what I would like to leave one day when I leave the club, everyone is going to remember ourselves and our work," said Silva on his ambition at Fulham.

"I would like to leave a legacy. With titles it's going to be much better, it's going to be perfect, but you know our reality, you know that we are Fulham, for us to fight for titles you have two chances, they are going to be the cups, you have to be realistic.

"And even the cups, you know that you have probably a big number of clubs more favourite than us to get that title. But to know that [we go] game-by-game and we have to look for it with full ambition."

Fulham also managed to keep star midfielder Joao Palhinha out of Bayern Munich's clutches in the summer window, again showcasing their determination to improve as a club.

The west Londoners currently have gaps in quality across the striking position, midfield and defence, but Silva is apparently looking to rectify that with potential moves for Stuttgart striker Serhou Guirassy and Fluminese star Andre.

Fulham given "major lift" in race for Andre

According to a report by TEAMtalk this week, sharing an update on the latter target, Fulham may have been handed a "major lift" in pursuit of the 22-year-old.

Andre was being chased by Liverpool, but the outlet backs that Jurgen Klopp's side have now completely pulled out, giving Fulham a clearer pathway to sign Andre.

Fluminense midfielder Andre.

The race was allegedly becoming too crowded for Liverpool's liking, and it now looks likely that they will take their business elsewhere in a boost for Fulham and Silva. Speaking to Sky Sports in the summer, South American football expert Tim Vickery explained he is in no doubt that Andre could do a job in the Premier League.

“There’s a reason that he’s probably at the top of many club’s wish lists from South America at the moment,” said Vickery on Andre.

“He’s a defensive midfielder. The way that Fluminense play, they’re very, very front loaded. They’re a very unorthodox side. The way that they play means they leave a huge amount of space to cover, and he’s the man who has to cover that space.

"So, he’s quick. He’s quick around the field, he’s quick running back. They also pass out from the back in an almost suicidal manner, which means he’s continually having to receive the ball close to his own goal under pressure. So these are really honed skills that are useful."

Spurs could sign "rapid" van de Ven replacement for just £25m in January

Tottenham could sign a "rapid" centre-back target for just £25 million in January, with a fee in and around that figure "too good to turn down".

Postecoglou's problems at Spurs

On Saturday, the north Londoners succumbed to a 2-1 defeat away to Wolves and their second Premier League league loss on the spin – a scenario scarcely imagined just two weeks ago. Ange Postecoglou had made the best start by any new manager in the division's history, but a series of killer injury blows have now crippled Spurs' squad.

Star defender Micky van de Ven and playmaker James Maddison, who have both performed incredibly since arriving in the summer transfer window, won't be seen in a Lilywhites jersey again until 2024. Eric Dier and Ben Davies were the nominees to fill in for both van de Ven and Cristian Romero (suspended) against Wolves, with both struggling in parts, while Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg played a more advanced midfield role in Maddison's stead.

“We started well but we could have been a little bit more positive, a little bit more aggressive, particularly with the ball,” said Postecoglou on Tottenham's loss to Wolves.

“I have got to temper that with the fact we’ve made so many changes and we’re not going to get the same sort of fluency when three of your back four are virtually starting for the first time [this season].

“We’ve made a couple of changes further up as well so it’s not going to be as fluid but we could have been more positive.”

The long list of absentees has exposed Tottenham's glaring lack of options behind their starting eleven, and reports have suggested that sporting director Johan Lange wants to sign a new centre-back in January to make up the numbers. Bournemouth defender Lloyd Kelly is a target for Spurs in that regard, while Everton's Ben Godfrey is also liked by Tottenham.

Spurs could sign Kelly for just £25 million

Postecoglou's side quite simply need to sign an alternative to van de Ven in the winter window, as the Dutchman's pace and comfort in a high line is crucial to the way Tottenham play.

A pacy replacement for the 22-year-old would be ideal, with Football Insider reporter Pete O'Rourke claiming Tottenham could sign Kelly for just £25 million.

Bournemouth defender Lloyd Kelly.

The Cherries defender has a contract expiring at the end of the season, meaning Bournemouth aren't in a position to demand marquee figures. Indeed, it is believed Kelly's club would find a fee of around £25-£30m "too good to turn down".

The Englishman has been revered for his speed by members of the press, with Sky Sports reporter Jamie Weir also saying Kelly is adept at playing a high line.

Holding on to the ball

Concentration

"Find the ignorance/snobbery over Lloyd Kelly fairly odd," said Weir in September.

"Lots of comments asking who he is. He’s 24, a rapid left-footed CB, comfortable playing a high line, homegrown and has leadership qualities, having captained Bournemouth for a year."

All the signs suggest he could come as a brilliant second option to partner Romero at the back, not to mention a very affordable one.

3 players Norwich could sign from Arsenal using Ben Knapper’s connections

Even with under-pressure manager David Wagner still at the helm, Norwich City are entering a new era as a football club with the appointment of Ben Knapper as Sporting Director of the Canaries with Stuart Webber stepping away from the Norfolk-based club subsequently.

Knapper will have a whole host of difficult decisions to make and considerations to ponder over, especially the immediate future of Wagner in the dug-out if results don't begin to pick up.

Another will be the January transfer window coming up and whether or not Norwich should sign anyone, sniffing around to see if any players would be tempted to relocate to Carrow Road even on just a short-term basis on a loan deal.

Calling his new role a "huge honour and privilege" via the Norwich official club website, Knapper won't completely discard the past connections he's got in the football world however in his new surroundings – the current Canaries Sporting Director previously on the books at Premier League Arsenal, holding various different roles at the Emirates.

This could see Norwich potentially raid Knapper's former club for some young and hungry talents this January, an injection of freshness just what the Yellows desire after a dire recent run of form in the Championship.

Here are three Gunners youngsters Norwich could potentially look at…

1 Reuell Walters

reuell-walters-arsenal-academy-ben-white

Able to play at right-back, left-back and centre-back, Norwich could well gamble on the services of the versatile Walters to help fix the leakiness present at the back currently under Wagner.

Relying on defenders such as Danny Batth recently – the ex Wolverhampton Wanderers man reaching the twilight of his career at 33 – a fresh face at the heart of defence could do the Yellows the world of good and Walters could offer Wagner's men something different with a quick, mobile figure in the backline.

Cited as an "attack-minded" defender according to the Arsenal official club website, the teen starlet is deserving of his first loan away from the north London club – playing in eight straight games for the U21's recently, the 18-year-old even captaining the side on occasion.

2 Bradley Ibrahim

Norwich could also do with reinforcements in the centre of the park, mainly in defensive midfield.

The only out-and-out defensive midfielder present in Norfolk at this moment in time is Jacob Lungi Sörensen, but the young Dane finds himself sidelined with an injury at this moment in time.

This is where Ibrahim could come to the rescue if signed on a loan deal this upcoming January, the 19-year-old excelling in this role for the U21s currently.

Rising through the ranks in north London – formerly U18s captain – Ibrahim is a key starter for the Premier League 2 Gunners now with the teenager even scoring versus Brighton on top of assisting a further two strikes in his last outing.

Ibrahim is ready for the step-up to senior football having appeared in first-team squads at Arsenal, with Norwich now a potential destination for the promising midfielder.

3 Amario Cozier-Duberry

Arsenal's Amario Cozier-Duberry

The Canaries could well be in the market for another winger this January, with fears mounting that Jonathan Rowe could be leaving the building – Premier League interest intensifying in the standout 20-year-old.

Amario Cozier-Duberry could well be just the talent Norwich are seeking, the teenage star dazzling defences and proving "unplayable" – as per Jack Wilshere – at youth level for some time with trickery and skill.

The 18-year-old isn't just a showboater with no obvious end product however, netting four goals in his last two U21 games including a brace against Manchester City last time out.

His second goal was the culmination of a magical solo run paying off, evading Man City challengers before firing home what proved to be a crucial equalising strike.

Wagner could well opt to sign Cozier-Duberry for more bodies to call upon from down the channels, the 18-year-old eager to show off his raw skill on a bigger stage.

Liverpool’s 8/10 “livewire” could be making Klopp forget about Jota

Liverpool defeated LASK 4-0 in the Europa League on Thursday night to win Group E with a game to spare, having blown the Austrian side away with offensive supremacy, albeit squandering several chances.

The Reds were by no means at their best, but Jurgen Klopp will be delighted with the killer instinct that has been so intrinsic to the squad's success both this season and for the lion's share of the German's illustrious reign.

Gakpo distracted from just how good 8/10 Liverpool star was vs LASK

Despite losing possession 22 times, Jurgen Klopp’s exciting star proved his worth once again.

ByAngus Sinclair Dec 1, 2023

The Anfield victory also marked the 30 successive match that Liverpool have found the back of the net – a feat achieved only twice before in the club's history – in what is a flamboyant illustration of the title-winning credentials; Liverpool are firmly in contention to win silverware across every front at this stage of the campaign.

Focus shifts back to the Premier League now, with Klopp's side hosting Fulham on Sunday, with the Merseyside players undoubtedly galvanised by yet another impressive display from Mohamed Salah.

Mohamed Salah's performance vs LASK

The Egyptian sensation has been the fulcrum of Liverpool's attacking efforts for some time, and once again he influenced the play as the Reds probed for goals last night.

Scoring a second-half penalty to take his club tally up to 199 from just 324 matches, he has now posted 13 goals and five assists from 19 matches across all competitions this season.

luis-diaz-mohamed-salah-liverpool-opinion

As per Sofacore, the 31-year-old took five shots across his 56 minutes on the pitch, took 41 touches and completed 86% of his passes. It was not one of his finest in a Liverpool shirt but highlighted his superlative offensive threat and unceasing hunger for goals.

Klopp knows all about Salah's brilliance, and while his display was pleasing, the excellent effort of Luis Diaz on the alternate flank was far more important for the Reds going forward.

Luis Diaz rises to the occasion

Alisson Becker and Diogo Jota were absent from the squad in the Europa League, with the pair picking up injuries against Manchester City last week.

Alisson is understood to be sidelined for two weeks, but Jota's timeframe has not been established and has sparked fears that he will be shackled to the medical room for the winter period.

Jota has been in prolific form this season and has already scored eight times from just 11 starts across all competitions, primarily utilised on the left flank, and while his loss is a blow, Diaz has proved that he can make Klopp and the Liverpool supporters forget about the 26-year-old's absence.

Scoring a delightful goal against LASK, starting the move before incisively placing a header into the net following a darting motion into the box, the Colombian has now plundered five goals from 11 matches.

The 45-cap international has been heralded as a "livewire" by journalist Pete Hall and ranks among the top 8% of attacking midfielders and wingers across Europe's top five leagues over the past year for goals, the top 9% for pass completion and the top 17% for successful take-ons per 90, as per FBref.

With one eye on Sunday's fixture, Klopp withdrew the £55k-per-week star alongside Salah before the hour mark, but he left his impression on the visitors, complementing his goal with a 92% pass completion rate, success with both of his dribbles, a key pass and by winning three of his four ground duels.

Liverpool winger Luis Diaz warming up.

GOAL provided Diaz with an impressive 8/10 match rating, writing: 'Continued his impressive recent form with an energetic and effective performance. Took his goal with aplomb and was a constant threat. The winger has been in remarkable form considering what he has been through in recent weeks and that may be needed with Diogo Jota's injury.'

Jota will be missed throughout the rigorous December period, but with Diaz performing at such a high level and Cody Gakpo – who scored twice against LASK – firing themselves into form, Liverpool could maintain their first-class form.

4/10 Spurs star was as bad as Destiny Udogie during West Ham defeat

Tottenham Hotspur's season sank to a new low as West Ham United became the latest side to come from behind to defeat Ange Postecoglou's side in the Premier League.

Buoyed by the return of Cristian Romero after the tough-tackling defender's three-match suspension, the Argentine emphatically announced his return with a pinpoint header from Pedro Porro's corner to open the scoring and get the home crowd cheering.

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou

But after the break Spurs dwindled, with Jarrod Bowen capitalising on a fortuitous deflection to bypass Guglielmo Vicario's goal before Destiny Udogie's calamitous backpass allowed James Ward-Prowse to score his third goal for the Hammers after slotting into an open net, having hit the post with his initial effort.

Destiny Udogie's game in numbers

It's a massive shame for the young Italian to have started so well and seen strides taken crumble in an instant after such a mess of a pass back to his keeper.

Such a mistake is a reminder (granted, a poignant one) that he is very young and very inexperienced in the English game.

However, this should not detract from the exemplary start to life under Postecoglou that has left the likes Hunter Godson claim that he "gets into nearly every team in the world already."

Against West Ham, as per Sofascore, he won eight duels and made four clearances and interceptions apiece but indeed saw his efforts marred by such a detrimental error, also taking 73 touches and completing 86% of his passes.

While his defensive mishap cost Postecoglou, the real blame should lie with those of an attacking persuasion, with Dejan Kulusevski flattering to deceive after an ineffectual – if spirited – display.

Dejan Kulusevski's performance vs West Ham

Kulusevski has been immense for Tottenham this term and he is comfortably one of the most important and influential players in the squad, but having been entrusted with a starting berth across every Premier League fixture this season, the 23-year-old winger will be disappointed to have made little use of his efforts.

Having branded the 35-cap Sweden international with a 4/10 match rating, football.london's Alasdair Gold said this: 'Plenty of hustle and bustle but like the rest of the front three very little at the end of it.'

Indeed, he was a constant threat down the right channel but failed to fashion promising openings, with this notion perhaps epitomised in the closing seconds as he broke free down the wing only to lose his footing and fail to cross the ball into the box.

Dejan Kulusevski

To illustrate this, Kuluevski succeeded with just two of his nine attempted dribbles, failed with all four crosses, won just five of his 21 contested ground duels, and lost possession 26 times. Damning numbers indeed as the Lilywhites' slump continued against the Hammers.

That being said, he was always attempting to craft success, but it just wasn't to be and he will be left rueing his lack of incisiveness on the night.

3/10 Newcastle star who lost possession 20x was as bad as Wilson vs PSG

Just a few minutes after the restart, word got around St. James’ Park that Karim Adeyemi had fired Borussia Dortmund into the lead. With Newcastle United also winning 1-0, the Magpies looked set to progress through to the knockout phase, having been the underdogs from the get-go.

However, disaster struck pretty soon after and by the end of the game, Eddie Howe’s side had fallen to a 2-1 defeat at home against a Milan side that had never really got out of second gear.

harvey-barnes-eddie-howe-newcastle-liverpool-premier-league

In the end, the Geordie outfit limped out of the Champions League despite putting in an excellent shift during the opening 45 minutes. There was one player in particular, though, that struggled throughout the match.

Callum Wilson’s performance in numbers vs PSG

Callum Wilson was back in the lineup for Newcastle on Wednesday night in the Champions League which was his first inclusion in the starting eleven since being taken off at half-time in a 2-0 defeat against Dortmund at the beginning of November with a hamstring problem.

Callum Wilson.

Nevertheless, Wilson struggled to have any real impact on the game despite having numerous chances in and around the penalty area. The ex-Bournemouth man had four attempts on goal, getting two on target which recorded a combined xG of 0.67.

Overall, Newcastle boasted an xG of 2.04 and massively underperformed in front of goal, meaning the experienced frontman contributed towards 33% of his side’s xG. The most glorious opportunity Wilson had came in the 62nd minute. This effort had an xG of 0.45, according to FotMob, and would have put the hosts back in front.

Nevertheless, Wilson wasn’t the worst player on the pitch in a black and white shirt.

Miguel Almiron’s performance in numbers vs PSG

Another player who struggled to have any impact on proceedings was Miguel Almiron. Interestingly, the Paraguayan registered a higher xG than star striker Wilson with 0.76 and missed an incredible 0.59 xG chance in the first half which was blocked by Fikayo Tomori.

After the game, GOAL handed the 29-year-old a 3/10 match rating, the lowest of any Newcastle United player, while labelling him as a 'painfully limited attacker', bemoaning his lack of a right foot in critical situations.

Almiron was somewhat of a hindrance to the team during the match, failing to complete a single dribble past Milan’s resolute defenders and losing possession of the ball 20 times throughout his 90 minutes on the pitch. Additionally, he didn’t create any opportunities for his teammates, nor did he even put an accurate ball into the penalty area, according to Sofascore.

This was one of a triple-header of poor performances by the playmaker over the past week.

The £21m signing put in an equally poor, if not worse display against Everton at Goodison Park last Thursday. The former Atlanta United man earned a 4/10 rating for his showing in Merseyside by The Shields Gazette which was followed up by another 4/10 display at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.

With players returning from injury, it may be high time for Howe to remove the South American from the starting lineup for now.

Wolves may "soon" make move for "exceptional" Union SG star Mohamed Amoura

Wolverhampton Wanderers could soon add a free-scoring striker to their ranks in January as Gary O'Neil seeks to add more dynamism to his attack, according to a report.

Wolves prepare for Brentford

On Christmas Eve, Wolves pulled off a stunning 2-1 victory over Chelsea at Molineux as goals from Mario Lemina and Matt Doherty rendered a Christopher Nkunku reply for the visitors as nothing more than a consolation.

As a result, the Old Gold now find themselves further away from the relegation zone as their quietly impressive run of form at home in the Premier League continues to roll on, with O'Neil's men now seven games without defeat in the West Midlands.

Wolves have expressed interest in signing "dangerous" new player for O'Neil

The club may face competition to sign the man in question…

BySean Markus Clifford Dec 24, 2023

Speaking in his post-match press conference, the 40-year-old praised his side's ability to handle the threat of Mauricio Pochettino's outfit despite a bout of illness among the squad leading to several absences, as he stated cited, via The Daily Mail: "It was a tough day for us with a call from the doctor this morning around illnesses. I had to call up some young lads last minute to make up the squad.

"Going against what Chelsea had, especially late on in the game, I thought it might have been tricky for us once we started to tire. But the lads manage to produce another fantastic performance here in front of the home fans and we deserved the win really."

Next up for Wolves is a trip to Brentford and an opportunity to brush up on their slightly more erratic results away from home soil; nevertheless, they will also have an eye on January and could now target a new centre-forward, according to a report.

Wolves "could soon" bring in Mohamed Amoura

According to reports in Algeria, translated by Sport Witness, Wolves "could soon" bring Union SG striker Mohamed Amoura to Molineux to join compatriot Rayan Ait-Nouri, following the former's excellent showings in the Jupiler Pro League this term. The outlet claim that the 23-year-old's "exceptional" pace is the "perfect fit" for O'Neil.

Wolves could do with another body across the front line in January, especially when factoring in that striking pair Sasa Kalajdzic and Fabio Silva may move on in January in search of regular minutes elsewhere, as per The Telegraph.

In the event this occurs, acquiring Amoura would help to provide a clinical edge in attack for the Old Gold as they aim to progress up the Premier League table under O'Neil's stewardship.
