Liverpool and Reading fans react to Ovie Ejaria performance vs QPR

Both Liverpool and Reading fans have been reacting to Ovie Ejaria’s performance during the Royals’ 2-2 draw against QPR at Loftus Road on Tuesday.

The 21-year-old was one of the bright sparks for the visitors as Reading took a point back to Berkshire, but they still remain in 20th in the Championship table.

Ejaria provided the assist for George Puscas’ equaliser in the first half and played a big part in his side’s performance. He accumulated a pass success rate of 74%, made four successful tackles and won seven of his 13 ground duels.

The Liverpool loanee will spend the season at the Madejski Stadium, with a view to a permanent move.

Supporters of both Liverpool and Reading were pleased to see the former Rangers man performing the way he did.

One Liverpool fan said that he has a playing style similar to the Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba, while another said that he would be a big loss if he leaves the Reds for good.

Here you will find some of the best responses from Liverpool fans:

Brighton: Fans think that Aaron Connolly is worthy of award

Many Brighton and Hove Albion fans think that Irish youngster Aaron Connolly is worthy of an award for the ‘Performance of the Month’ for October.

The award, in association with Porsche’s Mid Sussex Centre, has nominated three players for the trophy – Connolly, just 19, has been nominated for his double against Tottenham, Adam Webster was nominated for his performance against Aston Villa, and Leandro Trossard was nominated for his performance against Everton on the weekend.

It’s been a good month for Brighton – especially at home. They have beaten both Tottenham and Everton, though did lose to Villa on their travels.

Many fans got in response to suggest who they thought was worthy of the award, and many replied saying that it would be Connolly’s match-winning performance against Tottenham Hotspur. The Irishman was able to score twice against Spurs to pile on the misery for the North London club after they got demolished 7-2 in the Champions League by Bayern Munich.

Crystal Palace fans rejoice over Vicente Guaita’s return against Leicester

Crystal Palace fans have taken to Twitter to rejoice over the return of Vicente Guaita, after the goalkeeper was named in the starting XI to take on Leicester at Selhurst Park.

The Spaniard had missed the previous two games against Manchester City and Arsenal through injury, but Roy Hodgson immediately reinstated him into the lineup against the Foxes.

Wayne Hennessey started both of those games in the 32-year-old’s absence, and some Palace fans on Twitter certainly weren’t happy to see the Welshman in the XI against Arsenal – other supporters on Twitter felt that the side missed Guaita in the 2-0 loss to Manchester City as well.

His return couldn’t inspire Palace to three points as the Eagles fell to a 2-0 defeat, although there is no shame in losing to this Leicester side at the moment.

One fan called the former Getafe glovesman an “invaluable player” and also spoke of how much of a calming influence the goalkeeper is on the Eagles’ backline.

Another supporter echoed that sentiment by calling Guaita “reassuring”.

Let’s take a look at some more of the tweets from the rejoicing Palace fans on Twitter…

Michail Antonio could be the key to unlocking Sebastien Haller’s potential

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Opinion series, which provides analysis, insight and opinion on any issue within the beautiful game, from Paul Pogba’s haircuts to League Two relegation battles…

Sebastien Haller has scored 4 goals and got 1 assist this season, as per WhoScored, but the feeling remains that West Ham United can get more out of him.

The main issue that has been cited so far is the lack of support he has had on the pitch, with Tony Cottee telling Football FanCast: “I think at times he’s been a little bit isolated up front, so he could do with a little bit of help, but I’ve been impressed.”

A solution will need to be found for how to deal with this, and there is hope that the answer to the problem is already on the club’s books.

It has been indicated by The Athletic that the feeling within West Ham is that their club-record signing could improve once Michail Antonio returns from injury.

In a previous article by the same outlet, Antonio was quoted as saying: “It’s good that we have two people up there now who can play the big man game. We can both hold the ball up, we can both run in from behind, so we’ve had a nice little partnership going.”

If Pellegrini decides to switch to a 4-4-2, with Antonio alongside Haller, then it would certainly be very intriguing to see how that partnership flourishes.

With Haller winning 6.7 aerial duels per game this term, having someone with Antonio’s dynamism around him would certainly ease the isolation he has had to deal with in a claret and blue shirt thus far.

In addition, Antonio’s running in behind could give Haller more space to exploit, rather than being the main focus of opposition defenders.

There will have to be a bit of patience, with Antonio expected to be back following the international break, but when he is back the 29-year-old could be just what Haller has needed all along.

Sheffield United fans applaud Enda Stevens for his award win

Sheffield United left-wing-back Enda Stevens has been voted the Irish Overseas Player of the Year, as confirmed by the club’s official channels.

The 29-year-old has been an ever-present figure for the Blades this campaign, making 12 Premier League starts and getting 2 assists in that time.

He has also averaged 2.3 tackles, 2.3 dribbles, 1.7 clearances and 0.9 interceptions per game, highlighting the influence he has had, which will have played into the recognition received:

Stevens signed on a free transfer from Portsmouth in 2017, helping the Blades get to the Premier League with 11 goal contributions last campaign.

It is this that has seen him become a well-liked figure at Bramall Lane, while also helping him on the way to 11 international caps for the Republic of Ireland.

The award indicates just how impressive Stevens has been and Sheffield United fans think the award is fully deserved.

Wolves have been handed a long-term boost after latest Chem Campbell reports

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

According to Football Insider, Wolverhampton Wanderers are in advanced talks over a new contract with their wonderkid Chem Campbell.

It’s a decision that has the potential to not only boost the club’s long-term future but also it matches one of the key ambitions set out by owners Fosun.

What’s the word?

The reports claim that the Molineux decision-makers are attempting to tie down the promising attacking midfielder when he turns 17 in December.

This comes as potentially fantastic news for those up in the west Midlands as a whole host of Bundesliga clubs were reportedly chasing him in the hope they could clinch the next Jadon Sancho or Ademola Lookman.

Borussia Dortmund themselves, Schalke, and RB Leipzig were three teams touted for interest.

Campbell made his first-team debut last month as Wolves were defeated by local rivals Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup.

He became the second youngest player to put on the old gold shirt, eclipsing both Morgan Gibbs-White and Robbie Keane.

Fosun’s delight

First and foremost, the decision goes to great lengths in proving that Fosun’s goal to build the club from within is more than mere hearsay to appease supporters.

The club’s owners have invested money in the academy set up in recent times in the hope that more players can follow Gibbs-White into Nuno Santo’s first-team fold.

Campbell is one of the most promising talents at Wolves, and he has been described as a player with ‘great potential’ that can ‘beat players and score goals.’

His recent maiden bow for the senior side will serve as a significant source of confidence going forward as he’s clearly well thought of by the Portuguese chief, especially as he has also been part of their Europa League squad this campaign.

Wolves, Fosun, and Nuno could have quite a midfielder on their hands, one that will assist the club in meeting all of its long-term ambitions.

Man United set to face competition from PSG for the signing of Jadon Sancho

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

Manchester United are set to face competition from Paris Saint Germain as they aim to sign Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho, as reported by The Express.

What’s the story?

The report claims that the Ligue 1 giants are set to pose the biggest obstacle to Man United in their bid to land Sancho.

Sancho, who has scored 3 Bundesliga goals and provided 5 assists from 8 starts and 1 substitute appearance, is ready to quit Dortmund after he was dropped from the side last month.

The Englishman was fined for returning late from international duty and then taken off after just 36 minutes against Bayern Munich.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is said to be interested in making a January swoop, but PSG have made him their top target due to doubts over Neymar’s future – and that could pose a big problem for the 20-time Premier League winners.

Tough competition

Regarding the transfer window, the French champions will prove to be very tough competition as they have shown in the past how dominant they can be in the market.

In 2017, they signed Neymar for a world-record £200m, following that up the following year by bringing Kylian Mbappe to Parc des Princes for £165.7m.

This gives an indication of just how powerful they can be in the market, while their record of having won five of the last six Ligue 1 titles could be another factor to lure prospective players to the French capital.

With that in mind, Man United could have a battle on their hands to bring the talented teenager to Old Trafford.

Shaun Goater suggests Guardiola wants Foden to take Man City to another level

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

The topic of Phil Foden’s development is a relentless sub-plot at Manchester City which isn’t going away anytime soon.

What’s the word?

Pep Guardiola’s team selection comes under scrutiny from hoards of Twitter experts who clearly know better than the most talented football manager of a generation, with Foden’s exclusion regularly depicted as some kind of moral injustice on the 18-year-old.

But there is clearly a more complicated situation to unpick than what the “experts” would lead you to believe.

Foden is, after all, just 18. He’s just about old enough to drive a car and legally purchase a pin, yet there are many who expect him to start regularly for one of the most successful football teams in recent history.

It’s a topic that divides neutral fans, frustrates City fans and ultimately points towards the level of potential the Stockport-born midfielder has.

In an exclusive interview with Football FanCast, Shaun Goater was asked about the Citizens’ plan to replace David Silva and what his exit could mean for Foden, and he appeared to suggest that there could be more frustration on the horizon for the neutrals.

“I think City will still look to get a quality player but Phil Foden will still get more minutes. My thinking and understanding from when I observe Pep is for players to come in and push the team, not be the same.

“I think that’s what is expected of Phil – to take the team to the next level. Whenever Phil has come on, he’s looked very confident, it looks as though he’s comfortable at this level.

“Everyone is saying he’s good enough so he should be in there. But I have this thought that Pep is asking a different question: can he take us to another level at this moment in time?”

Guardiola’s immense standards

The question of whether Foden can take the club to another level is an intriguing one. Clearly Guardiola is not willing to integrate youth merely to appease supporters. If he is going to include a player in his starting XI, they ought to have justified their place.

While the 18-year-old is clearly immensely talented and capable of holding his own at the top level, he is not going to seamlessly complete a transition into the senior squad if he isn’t going to offer an upgrade on the quality offered by the likes of Bernardo Silva, Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva and Ilkay Gundogan.

The reality is that there are a finite number of places for Guardiola to fill from a pool of immensely gifted central-midfielders, and until the England youth international showcases a level of quality that transcends what the aforementioned quartet can offer, he will continue to fight for scraps of involvement.

The silver lining is that Guardiola’s firm stance should, theoretically, prove to be enormously beneficial to Foden’s long-term development.

Leeds’ Helder Costa conundrum may be explained after Bielsa’s recent admission

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Opinion series, which provides analysis, insight and opinion on any issue within the beautiful game, from Paul Pogba’s haircuts to League Two relegation battles…

When you watch Leeds United this season it doesn’t look as if much has changed.

For better or worse, United seem to be playing a similar style of football to last season as they press hard and dominate possession on a weekly basis, but it’s now been revealed that there has been quite a change on the training ground.

[ad_pod ]

Indeed, Adam Pope live-tweeted from Marcelo Bielsa’s pre-Reading press conference, and the Argentine admitted that he’s less involved this season.

It’s quite a strange thing for a manager to admit, but Bielsa is Bielsa and you can never really predict what’s going to come out of his mouth at any given moment.

When you look at it, it kind of makes sense. The 64-year-old’s group of players are no longer learning his tactics as they are now instead trying to perfect them, and that isn’t as demanding a task for the squad.

However, that isn’t the greatest news for any new additions.

Of course, some new signings will have been brought in with the knowledge that their playstyles will ultimately suit what Bielsa’s system requires from them as Ben White is arguably Leeds’ Player of the Season so far as fans and journalists have both shared that sentiment.

But, others aren’t so lucky. The manager has previously admitted that his tactics aren’t suited to Helder Costa’s playstyle, the Argentine’s reduced involvement won’t have helped him get off to a good start at the club.

Indeed, the Wolves loanee has started poorly as he’s contributed to just one league goal this season.

In contrast, look at last season’s team, they got off to an electric start – losing just two of their opening 16 matches, after just a few months of training under the Argentine.

But if Costa hasn’t been given the same training regime as his teammates were last term he’s unlikely to get up to speed in terms of learning how to play in the way Bielsa wants him to.

In other news, Leeds fans have been discussing a signing they missed out on earlier this year.

West Ham’s Zavon Hines offers a feel-good story amid first-team’s misery

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

Zavon Hines has been speaking about how he came to get his coaching role at West Ham United, as reported on the club’s official website.

What did he say?

Hines was forced to retire in February, while at National League side Bromley, due to medical advice he had been given.

While this will have been a massive blow for the West Ham academy graduate, who represented the club’s first-team 31 times, it did end up leading to an opportunity to make a return to his routes.

[ad_pod ]

The 30-year-old started with the club in July and is currently an Under 14s coach, looking to help youngsters forge a career in the game, as he managed for himself.

He spoke to West Ham’s official website about how the opportunity came about: “It all happened quite quickly, when I decided to stop playing, I was speaking to [then-West Ham U16s coach] Jack Collison all the time. He’d been through a similar situation to me, and we kind of grew up together, so he told me to come in to see how Chadwell Heath was again.

“I wasn’t expecting to coach straight away – I’d never thought about it like that – but I’ve always wanted to help out.

“I was in and around the Under-18s, and it just reminded me of how it was when I was there as a kid. I enjoyed it so much I came back a few more times, and eventually I decided to try for my coaching badges and take it from there.”

A bit of positivity

Things are pretty miserable at West Ham at the moment, with the team on an eight-game winless streak and sitting 17th in the Premier League table, while questions can begin to be asked about whether there was much point in leaving Upton Park.

Therefore, it is nice to see some positivity coming out of the club, especially when it is considered how Hines’ career came to an end.

Collison excelled in his role as part of the academy, earning himself a move to Atlanta United, so the hope will now be that Hines can follow in his former teammate’s footsteps and contribute to the club.

In other news, many West Ham fans have been buzzing about the academy’s prospects.
