De Kock set the tone of the chase with a 75-ball 55 before Neil McKenzie hit a flurry of boundaries to expedite matters.Cobras had started the third day on 81 for 6 – 35 ahead – but lost Johann Louw in the fourth over of the morning. An obdurate 63-run stand between Qaasim Adams and Charl Langeveldt took the lead past hundred, but the innings folded soon after Langeveldt fell to Imran Tahir. Adams, who scored 88, was the last wicket to fall.Lions, who had chosen to field, bowled out Cobras on the first day for 224 with Zander de Bruyn taking a five-for. But Cobras sensed a first-innings lead when they had Lions on 131 for 6 at one stage. A contratação do executivo de futebol, Gustavo Oliveira, também passou por seus dias de novela, quando ele já trabalhava antes mesmo de ser oficializado no cargo. Ainda que o acerto com Sampaoli tenha sido uma boa surpresa e tenha acontecido rapidamente, a busca por um novo técnico durou mais do que o normal. Em certo momento, somente Santos e Fluminense, entre os clubes da elite, não tinham treinador definido para a nova temporada. A diferença é que o executivo de futebol já era conhecido desde setembro, quando foi anunciado que Renato assumiria o cargo.

Mesmo assim, com novelas encurtadas e um comandante inserido no planejamento, a torcida vê Gabigol sair e ninguém chegar para ocupar sua vaga no time. Além da cobiça em cima de outros jogadores do elenco. Mais uma vez o lado financeiro do clube impede agressividade no mercado, já demonstrada pelos seus três maiores rivais no último mês. Assim, os reforços deverão chegar apenas durante a pré-temporada.

A chegada de um novo ano para o Peixe pode até ter trazido um pouco mais de tranquilidade ao santista, no entanto não se livrou de ver problemas anteriores se repetindo. Novamente a temporada começa com uma enorme aposta em cima do treinador, algo que deverá ser tratado com mais cuidado, baseado nas lições fornecidas por 2018.

Basil Robinson, a brisk offspinner who played for Oxford University and went on to captain Canada, has died at his home in Ottawa at the age of 93.Robinson was a prolific allround sportsman at the University of British Columbia – in 1936 he scored 1533 runs and took 186 wickets for Vancouver Junior CC – and in 1939 was awarded a Rhodes Scholarship to Oxford but because of the war he was unable to take this up until 1946 by which time he was 27.While at Oxford he played football, rugby and cricket, becoming the first Canadian to be awarded his Blue in 1947 and 1948. He did little in his second appearance at Lord’s but in 1947 he took 4 for 54 in a drawn match.He enjoyed success with the ball in both seasons, taking 50 wickets for the university at 27.74; his best bowling came against Worcestershire in 1947 when he took 6 for 55 as the students beat the county by 169 runs. His only first-class half-century came when he scored 51 on his debut against Lancashire.On leaving Oxford he returned to Canada where he rejoined the Department of External Affairs but he continued to be an active cricketer. In 1954 he captained the Canadian squad which toured England playing a number of first-class games.

وارتبط بيلينجهام في الفترة الماضية بإمكانية الانتقال إلى ريال مدريد، حيث أكدت صحيفة “ماركا” الإسبانية أن هناك موافقة مبدائية من الإنجليزي للانضمام إلى الملكي ولكن المشكلة في الاتفاق مع بوروسيا دورتموند.

وبحسب صحيفة “بيلد” الألمانية أن المدير الرياضي لنادي ريال مدريد، خوسيه آنخل سانشيز، بصدد السفر إلى دورتموند للتفاوض على رحيل بيلينجهام مع إدارة ناديه.

يرغب ريال مدريد في ضم بيلينجهام بعقد لمدة 6 سنوات ينتهي في يونيو 2029، مع راتب سنوي قدره 20 مليون يورو، لكن بوروسيا دورتموند يطلب أكثر من 100 مليون يورو للتخلي عن اللاعب.

ولكن ريال مدريد لن يستسلم بحسب التقرير حيث يأمل المسئولون في حسم المفاوضات في أسرع وقت ممكن، لذلك سيسافر سانشيز إلى ألمانيا.

ويريد النادي الإسباني أن يحسم كل شيء خلال الأيام القليلة المقبلة، وربما الإعلان عن الصفقة إذا تم إقصاءه أمام مانشستر سيتي اليوم من دوري أبطال أوروبا.

Caminho traçado! A CBF (Confederação Brasileira de Futebol) sorteou, nesta sexta-feira, a tabela com data, horário e local dos jogos da primeira fase da Copa do Brasil, que terá início no dia 5 de fevereiro. A primeira partida da edição de 2019 será entre River-PI e Fluminense, no Estádio Alberto Silva.

A fase inaugural da competição é composta por jogos eliminatórios compostos por apenas uma partida. Em um verdadeiro ‘mata-mata’, o mando de campo é, geralmente, da equipe que ocupa uma menor posição no ranking da CBF. O empate, porém, classifica a equipe visitante.

A segunda fase, por sua vez, também é baseada em confrontos em jogo único, mas com mando de campo sorteados e disputa de pênaltis em caso de empate. A terceira fase já assume o sistema ‘tradicional’ da competição, que consiste em confrontos de ida e volta, que é encontrada no restante do torneio.

Os clubes que se classificarem da terceira fase chegarão ao quarto estágio do torneio. Os times vencedores estão nas oitavas de final, quando se encontrarão com os clubes que disputam a Taça Libertadores, Sampaio Corrêa, campeão da Copa do Nordeste, Paysandu, campeão da Copa Verde, e Fortaleza, vencedor da segunda divisão do Brasileirão.

Harbhajan Singh is all set to become the 10th Indian to play 100 Tests after he was confirmed in the XI for the Chennai Test

Harbhajan Singh has said he is a bit nervous but he will be all right before he steps out to play against Australia on Friday, which will make him the 10th Indian to have played 100 Tests. India don’t usually divulge team news before the toss, but made an exception this time. It would not have needed such confirmation in the usual course, but Harbhajan has mostly been out of the side and has played only one Test in more than 18 months, and is making a comeback into the squad.The landmark Test will come against Harbhajan’s favourite opposition, Australia, and at a venue where 12 years ago he applied the finishing touches to one of the greatest turnarounds in Test history, finishing off as joint Man of the Series against Australia. Harbhajan has taken 408 wickets from 99 Tests at an average of 32.27 and a strike-rate of 68.1.”It’s a big game,” Harbhajan said. “[The previous] 99 are gone. Obviously a bit nervous but I am sure I will be fine. I have faced these situations before.”I have gone through times when I was not doing well or when I was doing well and got too excited. These things happen. Bit nervous to start with, but I will be fine. Once I get away with 100, we will see what needs to be done to play another 50-odd. Probably I will have to work even harder.”Harbhajan said he was aware of the gap between the last few Tests, but he said he wanted to look ahead and make sure there was no such gap between the upcoming appearances. He remembered when he made his debut as a 17-year-old, in Bangalore against Australia, as just a wide-eyed kid.”Had no clue about what was going to happen,” Harbhajan said. “To be honest I was a little kid on the park. I was starstruck at looking at players. ‘Wow I am playing alongside [Sachin] Tendulkar, [Javagal] Srinath, Anil Kumble. These are all my heroes. I am playing today with them.’ Of course I have come a long way. At that moment I never thought I would play for India this long a time.”Harbhajan thanked his seniors profusely. “God has been very kind,” he said. “Big thanks to all my team-mates and great seniors like Tendulkar, Anil Kumble, Srinath, Rahul Dravid, Laxman. They have been fantastic. I don’t think I would have achieved this without their support, and would like to thank each and every one who supported me and stood by me. Just want to go out and enjoy this big match.”Harbhajan might have forgotten to mention the name of Sourav Ganguly on that list, but he came back to it and thanked him too. “I am just repeating names, but I couldn’t have achieved this without their support.”Harbhajan said the seniors helped him learn to never give up. “Of course it’s been a journey with a lot of ups and downs. No one can always be on the top. No one can always be down. You will have ups and downs. Not just as a cricket, but as a normal guy too.”What I have learned from my seniors is to never give up. I have seen all these guys have done so well for India. And made themselves great cricketers, great ambassadors for the game. One thing in common was they never give up. That’s what made this team successful. They showed us how to work hard. They made us believe we can win anywhere and from any situation. I am very proud I have played with these cricketers.”Harbhajan said growing as a person mattered as much as doing well as a cricket. “I have definitely grown up,” he said. “I have made a few mistakes early in my career due to my extra aggression. Sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn’t. Of course with time I have learned a lot and am looking forward to doing even better as a person. You might play this game for 15 years or so, but what sort of person you are matters the most. Everybody wants to be a better person than he was yesterday.”The last few years haven’t been easy for Harbhajan. He has had to face a lot of criticism for his ineffectiveness of late, especially after Anil Kumble’s retirement. He was asked how he deals with being possibly the most criticised man among those who have taken 400 Test wickets. The reply was belligerent.”How do I handle? I just keep quiet,” Harbhajan said. “Everybody has got their opinion. Unfortunately or fortunately, people have not played up to that level. Those kind of guys, if they say I am not good enough to play for India or if I have not done enough, it doesn’t matter. Who cares? What matters is what my team thinks of me, what my team-mates think of me. End of the day those guys are going to be there for you. As I have said everybody has got their opinion. Even I have got my opinion for others, it doesn’t mean I am always right.”Yet there was time, and the mood, for candour. Asked what he has been working on when outside the side, Harbhajan made a mockery of all mystery-ball announcements spinners make nowadays. “Small adjustments from point to point,” he said. “I have not developed any mystery ball. [There is no fourth one or fifth one – taking on from the doosra, which literally translates to the second one. If the first one comes out all right, it will be enough to get the wickets]

O Corinthians não pretende acelerar a estreia do centroavante Mauro Boselli. Carille também aproveitou o pós-jogos para fazer uma análise da derrota para o Guarani, atualmente comandado pelo ex-técnico do Timão, Osmar Loss. Segundo o atual técnico do Corinthians, ainda falta mais tempo de trabalho para que o time consiga mostrar entrosamento em campo e, assim, consiga vencer no estadual.

-Houve uma mudança bem grande em parte do elenco, temos que continuar treinando bastante para ajustar e, aos poucos, naturalmente, já começa a formar a equipe que a gente quer.Tivemos que nos expor um pouquinho pelo resultado, achei que sofremos uma pressão no primeiro tempo, logo que a gente fez o gol. No segundo, começaram a jogar em contra-ataque e principalmente finalizações de longe – analisou, e seguiu:

– Respeito bastante o Loss, ele conhece minha forma de trabalho e eu conheço a dele. Ele foi feliz, fez a jogada do primeiro gol muito bem feita, onde a gente não acompanhou direito, mas não teve duelo, respeito bastante. Em relação ao São Caetano, jogamos melhor, conseguimos rodar a bola, tivemos mais paciência, criamos oportunidades. De modo geral, a gente estacionou ou ficou abaixo do que fizemos contra o São Caetano.

Conversa com possíveis reforços
Sem citar nominalmente ninguém que está na mira do Corinthians, Carille falou também sobre a possibilidade de contar com mais reforços. O lateral Guilherme Arana, do Sevilla-ESP, e o atacante Vagner Love, do Besikitas-TUR, estão negociando seus respectivos retornos ao Timão. O treinador assegurou conversar com todo mundo.

– São todos jogadores de qualidade. De ontem para hoje não conversei, não falo perto de jogo sobre isso, mas a diretoria tem trabalhado. Ligo para todos o tempo todo, falo com Renato Augusto, com Paulinho… Não é de poder vir ou não, mas estou trabalhando. Entre Natal e Ano Novo, falei com todo mundo – finalizou o comandante.
