Journalist Darren Lewis has tipped West Ham United to buy real quality if  Daniel Kretinsky ends up purchasing a 27% stake in the Hammers.

The Lowdown: Kretinsky eyes Irons stake

Over the past few days, it has emerged that the Czech investor is interested in buying a 27% stake in the east London club (via The Guardian).

As of yet, however, there has been no official comment from the club or from the businessman himself.

The Latest: Big times ahead

Speaking to Sky Sports’ Super Sunday Matchday (via Hammers.news), Lewis predicted big times ahead for the Irons as he discussed the possibility of Kretinsky investing in the club and the subsequent potential for lucrative signings in the January transfer window. He said:

“What it does, it provides the ability for West Ham to go into a transfer window where they are going to look at quality, rather than making up numbers, with a degree of confidence.

“He (Kretinsky) is a guy who is very canny with his investments, he’s got other business interests as well outside of football.

“He’s generated a lot of optimism within the West Ham fanbase because they’re feeling now that with a guy like that coming into play suddenly they can start to think about the club matching David Moyes’s ambition…

“Now what the new investment enables them to do is go into a transfer window looking to attract – and they will be able to attract – the kind of quality player that will hopefully take the club to another level.”

The Verdict: Wait and see

Of course, the rumours that there could be a new investor at the club will surely have delighted many West Ham supporters. David Gold, David Sullivan and Karen Brady, are the current owners, and it is fair to say they are far from popular among many Irons fans.

Worth €3.4bn (£2.9bn, via Marca), Kretinsky is not quite on the level of Roman Abramovich or Sheikh Mansour, for example, but fresh impetus and points of view may be exactly what West Ham need to move to “the next level”, as Lewis put it. Should the deal go through, it promises to be an exciting time ahead for the Hammers, who are already flying as it is.

Allen Stanford, the Texan billionaire, has surrendered to US authorities and will appear in a federal court in Virginia on Friday. He surrendered after a warrant was issued for his arrest following allegations of massive fraud involving his Antigua bank.Stanford, 59, is expected to be transferred to Houston after his initial court appearance to face criminal charges, a federal official said. He already faces civil charges brought by the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).Dick DeGuerin, Stanford’s lawyer, told The Associated Press that Stanford “surrendered this [Thursday] afternoon to some FBI agents who were hiding out in black SUVs outside the residence where he was staying in Virginia”. “He walked out and asked if they had a warrant,” DeGuerin said.Stanford had been accused of “a fraud of shocking magnitude” by the SEC, the US’s financial watchdog, in February. At the time, a US district judge granted the SEC’s request to impose a temporary restraining order on the Stanford operations and to freeze the defendants’ assets, and appoint a receiver to marshal those assets.Stanford’s fall from grace affected the finances and the credibility of the ECB and the West Indies Cricket Board, the two boards most closely associated with him.The billionaire had become heavily involved in West Indian cricket since the time he built his own cricket ground in Antigua and funded a pan-Caribbean Twenty20 tournament in 2006. الاتحاد تمكن في الصيف الجاري من ضم المصري طارق حامد في صفقة انتقال مجانية، بجانب التعاقد مع زكريا هوساوي وهيلدر كوستا وأحمد شراحيلي.

وكان الاتحاد خاض معسكر في النمسا في الصيف الحالي تحت قيادة المدرب البرتغالي نونو سانتو بهدف تحضير اللاعبين للموسم الجديد، وحقق الفريق الفوز وديًا أمام لوزيرن السويسري بهدف دون رد، كما فاز بنتيجة 4-3 أمام ريد بول سالزبورج النمساوي، ثم تعادل أمام الوحدة الإماراتي بهدف لمثله.

Many Everton fans have been left slamming former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher for some comments that he made after their weekend game.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ weekly programme Ref Watch, in where Gallagher talks about the major incidents that happened in the top flight each weekend, he claimed that Aaron Cresswell’s yellow card for West Ham United against Liverpool was rightfully given, whereas Mason Holgate was right to be sent off against Tottenham Hotspur.

In his justification for the Cresswell incident, Gallagher admitted that he is ‘in the minority’ thinking that it should not have been a red, claiming that he does not think he catches the opponent like Holgate did, and that the difference was the ‘point of contact’.

Jurgen Klopp was not happy at all at VAR for not giving Cresswell a red, despite the similarities with Holgate’s challenge (The Daily Telegraph).

Gallagher also argues that the penalty awarded for a foul on Richarlison against Spurs was rightfully overturned, but also thinks that the referee was right not to play advantage as well, something some Toffees supporters disagreed with after an image after Hugo Lloris’ challenge was shared on Twitter.

There was a possibility that the decision would not be overturned, and so they feel as if the ref should have played advantage first and then potentially blow up.

Um problema muscular na coxa direita tirou o lateral-esquerdo Guilherme Arana das duas últimas rodadas do Campeonato Brasileiro e não foi recuperado a tempo do jogo deste domingo, contra o Santos. Sem contar com seu titular, o técnico Fábio Carille decidiu fazer uma aposta ousada no time que começa jogando na Vila Belmiro: em vez do lateral Moisés, que atuou nestes dois jogos, o titular será o volante Marciel, improvisado na lateral.

Marciel não disputa uma partida oficial desde março, mas nesta temporada foi opção de Carille apenas na lateral e não como volante, posição em que subiu da base após o título da Copa São Paulo de Juniores, em 2015. Como informou o LANCE!, o ano de afirmação do jogador foi interrompido graças à ingestão de um medicamento proibido pelo controle de doping para tratar uma doença que o deixou careca por causa de estresse e ansiedade.

Aos 22 anos, o jogador de 16 partidas e um gol marcado pelo Corinthians volta ao time neste domingo, no importante clássico contra o Santos, principalmente por cinco motivos. Confira a listagem a seguir.

1 – Lateral não é improviso
Marciel subiu da base do Corinthians como volante, então é natural que seja associado exclusivamente à esta posição. Porém, o jogador atuou quatro anos nas categorias de base do Grêmio como lateral-esquerdo, do sub-10 ao sub-14. Depois desta primeira etapa de formação ele mudou para o meio-campo no próprio futebol gaúcho, jogou assim na Roma-ITA e assim chegou ao Corinthians, onde desenvolveu suas habilidades como segundo volante. Foi só em 2017 que ele retomou a rotina de treinamentos como lateral-esquerdo por necessidade do elenco.

2 – Já jogou assim pelo Corinthians
No início do ano, o Corinthians vendeu Uendel ao Internacional, tinha Guilherme Arana a serviço da Seleção sub-20 e apenas Moisés à disposição na lateral. Foi esse motivo que fez Carille convencer o jogador a atuar improvisado e atuar sete vezes na temporada. Do total de jogos só um foi como titular: a vitória por 1 a 0 contra a Caldense, na primeira fase da Copa do Brasil. Na ocasião, o Timão descobriu horas antes da partida que Moisés não poderia jogar por conta de uma suspensão pelo Bahia, então Marciel foi escalado sem treinar na posição e mesmo assim atuou durante os 90 minutos.

3 – Está mais confiante que Moisés
É claro que Marciel já jogou assim pelo Corinthians, atuou assim na base e tem a confiança da comissão técnica. Mas ele venceu a concorrência com Moisés, que é original da posição e vai ficar no banco de reservas. Na visão do Corinthians, o volante está mais confiante para jogar que o camisa 6, que teve atuações abaixo da expectativa nos dois últimos jogos, especialmente na parte de triangulações e criação de jogadas. Carille vê Marciel mais apto para fazer as funções de Arana.

4 – Afastamento foi bem superado
Uma das preocupações do Corinthians durante o período de afastamento de Marciel por causa do risco de doping foi o comportamento do jogador. Afinal, não é fácil treinar diariamente sem perspectiva de jogar. Mas Marciel foi exemplar, como já ocorre desde 2016, quando voltou de empréstimo do Cruzeiro. Dedicado, quase sempre entre os destaques dos treinamentos e alegre, segundo relatos da comissão técnica. Marciel não ter baixado a cabeça nestes cinco meses foi fundamental para receber que a chance que apareceu.

5 – Já é velho conhecido
Marciel foi campeão da Copa São Paulo sob o comando de Osmar Loss, hoje auxiliar de Carille, e é observado pelo atual treinador desde 2015. Os dois são os principais orientadores do camisa 22 neste momento e esperem que ele jogue posicionado, sem muito furor ofensivo, apenas aparecendo para triangular e tentar infiltrações aos atacantes. O foco é defender bem e construir com paciência. O exemplo é o jogo-treino contra o sub-20, realizado na semana passada, em que Marciel foi titular e teve ótima atuação.

According to Foot Mercato, via Get French Football News, the Magpies are showing an interest in the Ivorian as they consider their options ahead of the January transfer window.

The report claims AC Milan and Marseille are among the other clubs keen on the midfielder, whilst Lens will only cash in on him if they receive a huge offer.

Sissoko 2.0

Eddie Howe could land Moussa Sissoko 2.0 for Newcastle by securing a deal for Fofana, whilst solving a major issue for the club.

Isaac Hayden’s average WhoScored rating of 6.53 is the highest out of all of Newcastle’s midfielders in the Premier League this season, whilst Jonjoe Shelvey topped the list with 6.80 last term. This suggests that the Magpies are desperately lacking in quality options in the middle of the park, and Howe could solve that problem by signing Fofana as he has shown his class for Lens.

Foot Mercato claims that he is fourth in Ligue 1 for distance covered this season, on 143.5 kilometres; whilst it was revealed in 2015 that Sissoko was the fastest player in the Premier League for Newcastle, clocking in at 35.3 kilometres per hour as his top speed.

The 6 foot 1 Sissoko averaged an excellent WhoScored rating of 7.04 in his final season on Tyneside, playing 37 of their 38 league matches in 2015/16. Fofana, who stands at 6 foot tall, is a rangey midfielder in a similar style to the 32-year-old and has averaged a sublime rating of 7.22 for Lens in Ligue 1 this term.

Fofana previously admitted that Manchester City legend Yaya Toure inspired him, admitting that the Ivory Coast legend was one of his role models whilst at the Etihad Stadium.

The 26-year-old said: “He inspired me a lot. When we went on tour, we spoke about everything and nothing. I had some times that I will never forget. And on the pitch, he was a role model for me, with his long runs forward, his assists, his goals. He was able to do almost everything, he was complete.”

Fofana’s form for Lens this season shows that he has the quality to impress at the top level, averaging 3.9 key passes and dribbles per game, along with 1.7 tackles and interceptions. Much like Sissoko was for Newcastle, he has proven that he can make an impact as a box-to-box midfielder and perform consistently, which is why Howe must ensure that he can get a deal over the line for him in January.
