Former Nottingham Forest defender Michael Dawson has announced his retirement from professional football. 

The 37-year-old was most recently with Chris Hughton’s side, but departed when his contract reached a conclusion at the end of the 2020/21 season.

But he didn’t make a single appearance for the Reds in the 2020/21 league campaign, as Forest finished 17th in the Championship table, in what was a disappointing season for the City Ground faithful.

In the campaign prior to that, Forest finished seventh in the second-tier standings, with Dawson making 19 appearances in total for the Reds in that campaign.

Dawson signed for Nottingham Forest in his second spell back in 2018, and made 121 appearances in total for the Reds over two separate spells with the club.

Speaking after his departure from the City Ground was confirmed this summer, Nottingham Forest Chairman, Nicholas Randall issued high-praise for Dawson, and labelled him as the ‘model professional’.

Now, plenty of Nottingham Forest supporters have taken to social media to react to the news of Dawson’s retirement, with many wishing him well for the future.

وفاز محمد صلاح بالجائزة للمرة الثانية، بعدما توج بها سابقًا في موسم 2017-2018.

وعبر “تويتر” نشر حساب ليفربول الرسمي تغريدة للإعلان عن فوز صلاح بالجائزة، وعلّق: “لاعب العام في إنجلترا من رابطة المحترفين الإنجليزية، تهانينا محمد صلاح”.

Fulham midfielder Andre-Frank Anguissa could be set to leave Craven Cottage this summer.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a report by Birmingham Live, who claim that the 25-year-old’s omission from Marco Silva’s matchday squad for the Cottagers’ Championship opener against Middlesbrough on Sunday could be a result of the transfer speculation surrounding the Cameroon international.

The report goes on to state that both Aston Villa and Arsenal are thought to have an interest in the defensive midfielder, while Everton and Valencia are also reported to be keeping a close eye on the situation of the former Olympique Marseille star, with the latter going as far to make a number of approaches to Fulham.

Fulham fans will be gutted

While the Fulham hierarchy appear intent on retaining the services of Anguissa, having already turned down multiple bids for the midfielder this summer, the fact that the 25-year-old was left out of the matchday squad for the 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough last weekend would not appear to bode well for fans of the club who are hoping the player sticks around.

And, the Craven Cottage faithful will easily be forgiven for wanting their side to keep hold of the midfielder beyond the summer, as it would appear as if Fulham’s chances of securing an immediate return to the top flight this season would be considerably greater with Anguissa in the side.

Indeed, over his 36 Premier League appearances last term, the £22.5m-rated man made an average of 1.6 interceptions, 2.2 tackles, 0.4 clearances and won a whopping 7.3 duels per game.

He also impressed in a creative capacity, providing three assists and creating four big chances for his teammates, as well as making an average of 0.8 key passes per game.

These returns saw the man Scott Parker dubbed a “superb” player earn a seasonal SofaScore match rating of 6.91, ranking him as Fulham’s 10th-best performer in the top flight of English football.

As such, it would indeed appear as if the west London side’s chances of promotion would be improved by keeping the £70k-per-week man, however, after the midfielder was left out against Boro, Fulham fans could well find themselves left gutted about the 25-year-old’s departure in the not too distant future.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni says India will be looking to score above five runs an over in the middle overs of the Asia Cup, which starts on June 24 in Pakistan. He also said he would bat up the order to avoid the sort of collapse that happened in the recent Kitply Cup final against Pakistan, where they lost wickets at regular intervals and ended up 25 runs short when chasing 316.”In the middle overs it is important to keep scoring at 5 to 5.5 runs per over at least till the 40th over without losing many wickets,” said Dhoni before India’s departure for the ninth edition of the Asia Cup. “[In Bangladesh] we did well in the league games but in the final we had a good run rate but lost wickets. Yuvi [Yuvraj Singh] was going well but the lack of an experienced partner didn’t help us,” Dhoni said, admitting his gamble of sending Suresh Raina ahead of him didn’t go well and that he would not repeat the same mistake again.India have done reasonably well in the middle overs recently: in the last 13 games – starting with the CB Series earlier this year – they have scored at the rate of 5.01 between the 21st and 40th over, and have averaged 34.88 runs per wicket, losing 34 wickets in those overs. While they scored at a good rate during the league matches of the Kitply Cup, Dhoni singled out the loss of wickets at regular intervals during Pakistan’s 25-run win in the final as the main cause for defeat.”You will see me batting up the order,” he said in response to the matter.It has been 13 years since India last won the Asia Cup but Dhoni believed that with a few changes they can clinch victory this year. Instead of resting on the laurels of the CB Series triumph in March or the formidable performances by most of his Asia Cup team-mates in the Indian Premier League, Dhoni said the focus was on coming back from another final loss to Pakistan.”It is not about what has happened in the past,” he said. “We will win more matches than lose if we play to our potential and our capability. What’s the story?

While the Magpies are closing in on the signing of Joe Willock from Arsenal on a permanent deal, it appears they have received a significant windfall from a player they let go a couple of years ago.

Former Newcastle academy graduate Adam Armstrong saw his move to fellow Premier League side Southampton confirmed, and Downie has revealed the positive implications it has for Bruce and Newcastle.

Writing on Twitter, he said: “Southampton agree a fee with Blackburn for striker Adam Armstrong. Newcastle to net 40% of the profit from their £1.8m sale three years ago. Personal terms not expected to be a problem.”

Bruce will be buzzing

It was only a few months ago back in May that reports had suggested Bruce had been informed by the Newcastle hierarchy that he would have a transfer kitty of less than £10m to work with this summer.

It was even suggested that the budget ruled out any potential chance of signing Willock permanently, unless the Magpies cashed in one of their prized assets.

But now, with the club close to sealing a deal for Willock, the good news doesn’t seem to end there.

Confirmation of Armstrong’s switch to St Mary’s sees the Tyneside club net a very healthy sum of money as part of the 40% clause that Downie claims was inserted into the deal to sell him in the first place.

With reports claiming that the fee Saints are paying Blackburn to be in the region of £15m, and Newcastle having initially sold him for £1.7m, the Magpies stand to make a fee in the region of £5m for Armstrong.

While the striker’s departure from St James’ Park may not have gone down too well with supporters, the fact they’ve made a good chunk of money on him years later, and at a time when they could desperately do with the cash to strengthen their own squad, is sure to have Bruce delighted.

That extra bit of money could be crucial in landing another signing after Willock.

Meanwhile, Newcastle could sign a dream partner for Joe Willock in this star…

صلاح نال الجائزة للمرة الثانية في مسيرته، متفوقًا على زميليه في ليفربول ساديو ماني وفيرجيل فان دايك، وكريستيانو رونالدو وكيفين دي بروين.

وقال صلاح عقب حصوله على الجائزة: “أنا سعيد جدًا وفخور للغاية بذلك، الحصول على مثل الجائزة أمر رائع للغاية”.

وبسؤاله “الآن أنت لديك الكثير من الجوائز، أين تحتفظ بها؟”، أجاب: “لدي غرفة في منزلي، توجد بها خزانة أضع فيها الجوائز الخاصة بي، وأفسح مساحة دائمًا للمزيد من الجوائز”.

Though he was appointed in November, Bracewell did not take over from stand-in coach Ashley Ross for New Zealand’s tours of India and Pakistan.Under his reign, from February 2004, New Zealand have played 35 Tests out which they won 12, lost 17 and drew six. In ODIs they won 55 matches out of 98.Vaughan said NZC was looking for a coach who will build on the current solid foundation and take it to the next level. A Federação Bahiana de Futebol (FBF) realizou na noite da última terça-feira a festa de premiação dos melhores jogadores do Campeonato Baiano de 2017. Em cerimônia ocorrida no Hotel Sheraton, no Campo Grande, o Vitória, campeão estadual, se consagrou como o principal vencedor, ao colocar cinco atletas na seleção do torneio.

O Rubro-Negro emplacou entre os melhores da competição o goleiro Fernando Miguel, o zagueiro Kanu, o lateral-esquerdo Euller, o volante Willian Farias e o atacante David. Além disso, contou com um dos artilheiros, André Lima (sete gols, ao lado de Marclei, do Bahia de Feira), e com a revelação: o atacante David.

O curioso ficou por conta da escolha do melhor treinador. Mesmo demitido antes dos duelos decisivos, Argel Fucks, antigo comandante do Vitória, ficou com o prêmio. O treinador caiu por conta da eliminação rubro-negra na semifinal da Copa do Nordeste, que antecedeu a final do estadual.
