The unique set-up will be watched by some of Warwickshire’s finest coaches and exceptional talent may be rewarded with a place in a County youth team.The Festivals have gone from strength to strength over the last few years, receiving accolades from the ECB and securing a sponsorship package from Listers VW. Past players who have taken part in the Festival, have even gone on to represent England, namely Moeen Munir who has been selected to represent the current Under 15 England squad. That’s not to mention several players who now appear in the Warwickshire Academy set-up and County Youth cricket.The District Schemes success is down to the vast number of capable youngsters playing club cricket in the County. Demand for a high standard of cricket has always been apparent at Under 13 and 15 age groups but research indicated that there was a bottle neck of talented Under 11 club cricketers who’s thirst for quality cricket had to be quenched. So for the first time ever the WCB host the Under 11 District Festival.Warwickshire CCC player, Dougie Brown, is a staunch supporter of the set-up and when asked if he’d of liked to play in such a festival he said “I’d have snapped your hand off! I never played ANY form of representative cricket until I played for Scotland against Australia in 1989. I was always overlooked for all age group squads so the opportunity to play at this kind of festival would have been fantastic at that time in my career.”

West Brom have reportedly agreed new contracts with Owen Windsor, Toby King and Zak Delaney, according to The Express and Star’s Joseph Masi. 

What’s the story?

West Brom would have been facing a nervy couple of months, as they looked to tie down some of their younger players to new contracts ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

Windsor, King and Delaney have all played their part for the club’s academy teams in recent seasons, and it appears as though they’ve made a good impression on key members of staff at the Hawthorns.

All of the players were out of contract at the end of the 2020/21 season, and the club have now reportedly agreed new deals with the trio, and it’ll be interesting to see what the future has in store for them in the coming months.

It will have been a no-brainer for the Baggies

It’ll be pleasing to see for West Brom’s supporters to see them tie down some of their upcoming talents to new contracts, as they could potentially have an important role to play with the senior side in the near future.

The Baggies endured a frustrating league campaign last term, as they were relegated from the Premier League, whilst under the management of Sam Allardyce.

But West Brom will fancy their chances of winning promotion back into the top-flight at the first time of asking, under the watchful eye of newly-appointed boss Valerien Ismael, who opted to leave Barnsley in favour of a move to the Hawthorns this summer.

In previous seasons, we saw some of West Brom’s promising young talents given a chance to feature in the senior squad, with the likes of Jonathan Leko and Rekeem Harper being just some of those to play a part for the club over the years.

With Ismael showing that he’s willing to give younger players a chance whilst at Barnsley, you’d be foolish to rule out the newly-appointed West Brom boss doing exactly the same whilst with the Baggies this term.

Even if they’re not to be a regular starters this season, King, Delaney and Windsor will all fancy their chances of forcing their way into Ismael’s plans in the coming months, and it will have been a no-brainer for West Brom to offer the trio new deals this summer.

أكد داركو نوفيتش المدير الفني لفريق وفاق سطيف الجزائري، أن اللاعبين سيسعون لتدارك خسارة الذهاب ضد الأهلي، للتأهل إلى نهائي دوري أبطال إفريقيا رغم صعوبة المباراة.

وكان الأهلي قد فاز على وفاق سطيف بأربعة أهداف دون رد، في لقاء ذهاب نصف نهائي دوري أبطال إفريقيا، ويحل المارد الأحمر ضيفًا على الفريق الجزائري، غدًا السبت، لخوض مواجهة الإياب.

وقال داركو نوفيتش خلال تصريحاته بالمؤتمر الصحفي قبل اللقاء: “رغم الخسارة برباعية في الذهاب، إلا أن لقاء العودة سيكون مغايرا”.

Wolverhampton Wanderers will have to pay Joao Palhinha’s €60million (£51.2million) release clause to sign him from Sporting Lisbon, according to Portuguese newspaper Record (via Sport Witness).

The lowdown

Palhinha was called up to the Portugal squad for the European Championships and despite only playing 45 minutes in the group stage, he was handed a start in the Round of 16 clash with Belgium.

Portugal were beaten 1-0, but Palhinha was their highest-rated player with 95% passing accuracy and six tackles (via SofaScore).

The 26-year-old made 32 Liga NOS appearances for eventual champions Sporting last season, securing nine WhoScored man of the match awards – the most of any player in the division.

Wolves’ transfer record currently stands at £36million – the fee they paid to sign teenager Fabio Silva from FC Porto last season.

The latest

The report names Wolves, along with Nuno Espirito Santo’s new club Tottenham Hotspur, Spanish champions Atletico Madrid and Champions League participants Sevilla among Palhinha’s suitors.

However, Sporting are intent on keeping him and they have made it clear that they will simply direct any interested parties to the buy-out fee.

The verdict

Sporting are of course well within their rights to refuse to negotiate, but from Wolves’ point of view you fear this could price them out of the deal. Champions League sides like Atletico and Sevilla are probably far more likely to meet those demands.

On the other hand, an influx of cash from the sale of Ruben Neves, for whom Wolves want £35million, could just about make the move feasible.

More generally, Palhinha could be an excellent replacement for Neves and yet another pleasingly ambitious addition. He’s a player more than good enough to be playing in European competition based on his showings this summer.

In other news, Atletico are also eyeing this Wolves ace.
