At the start of April, Luton Town had increased their unbeaten run in the league to 28 games and stood eight points clear of second place Barnsley, fast forward to now, and things can’t be any more different.

Nearly three weeks on from the Hatters 2-2 draw with Blackpool, Luton have played four more times, lost twice, and only picked up four points whilst their rivals in the league have massively closed the gap in the league table so that Barnsley are level on points and that Portsmouth are now only four points behind the League One leaders with a game in hand.

With one match left to go in the league, a win against Oxford United is an absolute must for Luton, who could potentially finish in the play-offs if they fail to win and both Barnsley and Portsmouth pick up three points in their final matches.

How did it go so wrong for Luton so quickly in the most crucial part of the season?

It’s been a mix of things for the Hatters as to why they unpredictably head into their final game of the season needing a win to claim the title. The prospect of promotion has clearly got to the heads of some of the players, and it has affected their form on the pitch.

The likes of Andrew Shinnie and Kazenga LuaLua have been underwhelming since the draw against Blackpool, and Mick Harford’s overthinking of tactics have cost the team points in recent weeks.

Teams around the league leaders hitting form at the right time has also majorly altered the table and ultimately damaged the Hatters promotion hopes, with the likes of Barnsley, Portsmouth and Sunderland all performing well and getting wins to see their points tally catch up to Luton.

Promotion to the Championship is still in Luton’s hands, but the team and manager know that one more slip up is not an option if they want to achieve back-to-back promotions.

يبدو أنّ نادي بايرن ميونخ الألماني، تراجع عن سحب عرض التجديد، للدولي النمساوي، ديفيد ألابا، ظهير الفريق، وفقًا لما ألمح له، كارل هاينز رومينيجه، الرئيس التنفيذي للنادي.

وينتهي عقد ألابا مع بايرن ميونخ بنهاية الموسم الحالي في يونيو 2021، وكانت هناك رغبة من طرف النادي الألماني بتجديده قبل سحب العرض رسميًا بحسب تصريحات رئيس البافاري، هربرت هاينر.

كما أكد حسن صالح حميديتش المدير الرياضي للنادي البافاري عدم استئناف المفاوضات مرة أخرى مع ألابا لتجديد عقده، بعد سحب العرض من قبل إدارة النادي، مشيرًا إلى أن رحيله بات أمرًا واقعًا (طالع ماذا قال؟).

ولكن يبدو أنّ النادي قد يستأنف المحادثات مع صاحب الـ”28″ عامًا، مرة أخرى، حول منحه عقدًا جديدًا.

وقال رومينيجه في تصريحات مُقتضبة عبر شبكة “سكاي سبورت ألمانيا”: “ديفيد؟ الباب لا يزال مفتوحًا”.

واختتم: “إذا أراد ديفيد البقاء في بايرن ميونخ ، فعلينا تقييم كيف يمكننا إيجاد حل معقول لكلا الجانبين”.

Additionally, Klopp left Roberto Firmino on the bench despite being given the all-clear to play the Brazilian, and instead opted to deploy Gini Wijnaldum as a false nine.

As a result, the German watched on as his side crashed to a 3-0 defeat against the Spanish champions, leaving them with a mountain to climb in the second leg at Anfield.

There’s not much you can do when Lionel Messi is in the mood he was in on Wednesday, but a number of Liverpool supporters on Twitter have pointed the finger at Klopp’s team selection as the reason for such a poor result…

وتحدث أوباميانج عن النني قبل مواجهة مولده في الدوري الأوروبي مساء اليوم، الخميس، في تصريحات نقلتها صحيفة “مترو” البريطانية: “لقد كان أداءه رائعًا في خط الوسط بمباراة مانشستر يونايتد”.

وأضاف: “اعتقد أن فترة الإعارة كانت جيدة بالنسبة له، الخروج والحصول على مزيد من الخبرة، لقد عاد إلينا بهذه التجربة التي خاضها وهذا كان أمرًا مهمًا أيضًا”.

وواصل تصريحاته: “مستواه الفني منذ عودته إلينا كان شيئًا لا يصُدق بالفعل”.

وتابع: “لا أعرف إذا ما كنتم قد شاهدتم الفيديو الخاص به على إنستجرام بنهاية مباراة مانشستر يونايتد، لكنني لا أعرف كيف فعل هذا المجهود الخرافي”.

عبر أسطورة منتخب هولندا، روي ماكاي، عن رأيه في إمكانية انتقال جناح الفريق الأول لكرة القدم بنادي أولمبيك ليون، ممفيس ديباي، إلى برشلونة في الميركاتو الشتوي المقبل.

وارتبط اسم ديباي في الفترة الماضية بالانتقال إلى برشلونة خاصة قبل انتهاء سوق الانتقالات الصيفي الماضي، ولكن في النهاية، لم تُحسم الصفقة بسبب أزمة مالية بالنادي الكتالوني وربما تتم في يناير 2021.

وأضاف: “ديباي ليس مهاجمًا صريحًا ولكن إذا انتقل إلى برشلونة، سيكون لاعبًا مهمًا بكل تأكيد لأنه يتمتع بقدرات فنية رائعة”.

Leeds United fans on Twitter aren’t fazed after Phil Hay provided an update on their long term target Daniel James.

The Yorkshire Evening Post writer tweeted that James’ destination next season may well be Old Trafford despite Leeds’ intention of going back in for the winger if they were promoted.

The Whites almost signed the Swansea man back in January only for the deal to collapse in the last hours of the window.

This news stings even more as the Welshman is now set to join the Yorkshire club’s bitter rivals, Manchester United.

One members of the fanbase in particular was gutted at the update, but many others managed to see the positive side.

Certain supporters were quick to praise Victor Orta and the scouting team for identifying a top quality player before other sides were interested.

The 21-year-old may never be a Leeds player but there may be signings of his calibre coming to Elland Road soon if the team can continue to unearth gems.

After West Brom failed to gain promotion to the Premier League, the managerial circus at the club is now back in full swing.

Darren Moore was sacked in March with Jimmy Shan then being given the reins until the end of the season. However, it now looks like the Midlands side are planning to make a move for former Brighton boss Chris Hughton, per The Telegraph.

Hughton has a solid record in the Championship but it appears as though some supporters aren’t pleased by the potential appointment.

One fan called for Albion to learn from past mistakes, labelling him as another Tony Pulis. A further member of the Hawthorns faithful hinted it would be an error of judgement.

The 60-year-old was given the boot by Brighton only this week but it doesn’t look like he’ll be out of management for too long.

In the past, Hughton has achieved promotion to the Premier League with both Newcastle and the Seagulls so there would be reasons to be hopeful for Albion fans despite their disapproval.

Tottenham Hotspur have backed out of the bidding for Wilfried Zaha after Crystal Palace demanded a £100million fee for the winger, per the London Evening Standard.

What’s the word?

Zaha has asked to leave Palace in the summer transfer window and the Standard claim that the Ivory Coast international has been a long-term target of Spurs.

The club attempted to sign the forward last summer but ultimately pulled out of the race following the Eagles’ £70m valuation.

He eventually signed a new contract, which runs for another four years, and Palace have now increased their asking price to £100m.

Spurs, though, are not willing to spend such a fee on a player, despite chairman Daniel Levy’s desire to back manager Mauricio Pochettino in the summer transfer window.

The club’s record signing is Davinson Sanchez, who joined the club in a £42m deal from Ajax in 2017.

Zaha scored 10 goals and laid on 10 assists in the 2018-19 season and the Standard claim that he is likely to be the subject of bids from other clubs in this transfer window.

Wise move

Sometimes, you don’t get what you pay for, and one feels that might be true of whichever club manages to acquire Zaha’s signature.

He has earned a big move before, joining Manchester United as Sir Alex Ferguson’s last ever signing as a manager, but he sank without a trace at Old Trafford.

It remains to be seen whether or not he can make the step up this time around but it is too much of a gamble to sanction a transfer worth £100m.

Palace are perhaps right to demand that kind of figure; it is likely to scare off potential suitors, with Spurs one such example.

But it would be crazy for any club to spend such money on a player who has never been anything more than a big fish in a small pond.
