Hossain had appealed to the BCB in February that his ban be reduced, so he can resume his career and take care of the expenses relating to his mother’s cancer treatment. BCB cricket operations chairman Akram Khan had said at the time that he had taken up Hossain’s case with the board higher-ups.”He is in a lot of problem in his family,” Khan told in March. “His mother is diagnosed with cancer. He is not playing cricket now so when he called me, I spoke to a few directors. We have requested the BCB’s disciplinary committee. We are hopeful to get a positive result from them. I have also informed the board president, who is also positive about him. , we hope that he can play in the NCL (National Cricket League).”In November 2019, Hossain had slapped team-mate Arafat Sunny Jr during an NCL match in Khulna, after the latter refused to shine the ball for the fast bowler. After being withdrawn from the match, he was charged with a Level-4 offence, which amounted to a fine of BDT 100,000 (US $1200 approx.) and a five-year ban with two years as suspended sentencing.In March, Hossain had said his primary motivation to return to competitive cricket before the completion of his five-year ban was his mother’s treatment.”I regret my actions. I was wrong, and I will try not to do it again. I won’t have any problem for the rest of my career. My mother is a cancer patient. I want to return to cricket, to help my mother’s treatment,” he had said during a press conference.Hossain didn’t appear in the NCL edition that ran earlier this year for two rounds before being postponed in April owing to a second wave of Covid-19 infections in Bangladesh.Hossain played the last of his 95 international matches in May 2015. – Gosto de dizer que sou um privilegiado de ter um pai como ele, por acompanhar a sua carreira de alto nível. Vivi algo que muita gente nunca viveu. Isso me preparou, me deuuma experiência importante, que muitos demoram a vivenciar – disse, ressaltando:

– Decidi pegar esse rumo e tem sido muito gratificante, né?! Vou seguir a carreira dele e, se Deus quiser, manter o nome dele no futebol – completou.

Gabriel Saroli tinha morado e estudado durante seis anos nos Estados Unidos. Mas o abalo diante da perda do pai chegou a causar um afastamento momentâneo do jovem em relação ao futebol.

– Eu ia fazer parte da comissão técnica do meu pai, mas na preparação física. O Matheus (Saroli, seu irmão) também iria ficar na comissão técnica. Mas quando aconteceu o acidente, parei de pensar em futebol. Era difícil até de assistir a jogos, não me via trabalhando com futebol – contou.

O fator determinante para cogitar uma ligação com os gramados aconteceu aos poucos.

– Fui a um treino do Corinthians, senti esse calor. Aos poucos, fiz outros cursos. No ano passado, em uma conversa no (aplicativo) Clubhouse, estava o Sinuê, ex-jogador que era amigo do meu pai (o atacante Sinuê foi contemporâneo de Caio Júnior no Grêmio). O Sinuê me colocou em contato com o (treinador) João Alexandre Garcia, que estava buscando alguém para integrar a comissão técnica do Atlético Atlanta. Foi uma coincidência muito grande. Foi Deus que me colocou naquela sala – afirmou.

Saroli destacou os desafios com os quais convive neste início de trabalho no Atlético Atlanta.

– Cheguei para ser ao mesmo tempo auxiliar da equipe principal e treinador da equipe sub-23. Sou muito novo, alguns atletas têm praticamente a minha idade, já outros são mais velhos que eu. Essa mudança de relação para um cargo de treinador foi difícil, mas com o passar das semanas, as coisas foram acontecendo. Trato todos igualmente – frisou.

Depois de quatro meses à frente da equipe sub-23, Gabriel Saroli levou o Atlético Atlanta ao título dotorneio regional da Geórgia da UPSL (United Premier Soccer League) Division One, formato que seria próximo ao da Quarta Divisão do Brasil.

– Graças a Deus, tudo correu bem na primeira temporada, conseguimos ir bem e já saímos com o título – recordou, detalhando:

– Nossa escala de pressão é diferente. Não temos pressão da imprensa, por exemplo, é uma liga semi-profissional. Mas muitos jogadores almejam chegar a um nível profissional, nós também queremos evoluir. A pressão é muito da nossa parte mesmo – completou.

Cinco anos depois da morte de Caio Júnior, Gabriel Saroli revelou como lida com esta partida abrupta do pai.

– É difícil, até hoje parece mentira, que a qualquer momento vou receber uma mensagem, ele vai aparecer. Nunca vai cair a ficha, parece que foi um pesadelo. Mas a gente vai aprendendo a lidar. É claro que têm dias piores, nos quais dá vontade de conversar. Mas tenho religião, minha fé, minha namorada, que tem me ajudado muito. Só que a verdade é que o tempo nos ajuda muito a lidar. A dor sempre vai ficar. Só que Deus vai nos dando força – declarou

O filho ainda aponta o que gostaria de falar para o treinador, que teve trabalhos em clubes como Paraná, Goiás, Botafogo, Bahia, Vitória, Grêmio e Flamengo.

– O que tenho mais vontade de contar para ele é como ele era amado, como as pessoas admiravam ele. Sou meio suspeito para falar do nível dele, mas é só ver os clubes que ele treinou. De qualquer forma, sempre foram importantes as relações pessoais para ele. Mas também falar como foi e é lembrado – disse.

He could have had four on another day. It’s a bit of a hackneyed expression but one that carries a ring of truth. Diaz has gone from strength to strength in the summer and has arguably been Slot’s best player so far.

A fiery half-century from Evin Lewis laid the platform for a 200 target set by West Indies, which seemed well within reach for Australia until a slew of dynamic fielding efforts during the chase turned the tide back the way of the hosts as West Indies clinched a 16-run victory to complete a 4-1 series win at Daren Sammy Stadium in St Lucia.Lewis attacked pace and spin in equal measure to blaze a 23-ball fifty and ultimately finished with 79 off 34 balls, including four fours and nine sixes, to pace West Indies through the first half of their innings after winning the toss and choosing to bat first. The hosts looked on track for well in excess of 200 while Lewis was still at the crease but after his departure Australia’s medium pacers, highlighted by Andrew Tye in his first match of the tour, bowled superbly at the death to rein back the West Indies line-up and give themselves a chance at a consolation win.Aaron Finch and Mitchell Marsh put Australia well ahead of the required run rate in the Powerplay portion of the reply. Tye bowled three of the final five overs in the sequence and conceded 19 runs while claiming three wickets, not to mention two other dropped chances he created.He began his haul removing the dangerous Russell for 1, picking out Alex Carey at deep cover in the 16th. A knee high full toss was slapped flat down the ground by Finch, but Allen reprised some of the boundary catching heroics from years gone by in the CPL, that put him on the map early in his career, by sprinting to his left at long-on before flinging his body to claim a stunner laid out full extension with his left hand.Two balls later, new batter Carey tried to tap and run into short midwicket to get a well set Moises Henriques back on strike. But Pooran continued his side’s merciless display in the field by hustling out from behind the stumps, picking up the ball and firing back into the striker’s end stumps from short range with Henriques still inches short of making his ground to be out for 21. From 95 for 2, Australia were suddenly 100 for 4.Despite being ahead of the required run rate, their thin middle-order depth meant the target became increasingly distant. Russell helped cement the win by dismissing Carey and Matthew Wade in consecutive overs. With 63 off 27 required for the tail, some late hitting made the final margin seem more flattering to the visitors than it was as the hosts completed yet another convincing win.

Alexander-Arnold recently spoke about his future, choosing to remain coy. He said via Fabrizio Romano: “I’ve been at Liverpool for 20 years now. I’ve signed four or five contract extensions and none of them have been said in public. This one won’t be either.”

With Real Madrid sniffing around, however, Liverpool will certainly be sweating over the right-back’s future, given just how irreplaceable he is. When it comes to Van Dijk, meanwhile, there will undoubtedly be the same concerns regarding his new deal, though it seems like the Reds have more of a plan in place in the Dutchman’s case.

According to Football Insider, Liverpool’s recruitment team have now convinced Slot that Marc Guehi can replace Van Dijk at Anfield just months after the former Feyenoord boss was of the belief that the Crystal Palace defender was not at that level.

Given a resounding endorsement by Edwards, Hughes and Co, Guehi may yet find himself on his way to Anfield next summer just one year on from Newcastle United’s persistent attempt to secure his signature before ultimately failing to agree a deal with Crystal Palace.

Earning a reported £50,000-a-week at Selhurst Park, Guehi wouldn’t disrupt Liverpool’s wage bill and represents a solid option to turn towards when it comes to boosting Slot’s backline.

Like in the case of Alexander-Arnold, anyone who attempted to step into the role of Van Dijk at Anfield would be replacing the irreplaceable. But Guehi’s attempt would at least be one to watch. His recent rise saw him thrown into the deep end at Euro 2024, before he arguably became England’s most consistent player at the tournament as they lost out to Spain in the final.

It was a tournament which saw the Palace star earn plenty of deserved praise, including from centre-back partner John Stones, who told BBC Radio 5 Live via The Metro: “So good, so good. For him to come in, not having felt the feelings around tournament football before or these kind of games, all kinds of different emotions that come with it that you’ve never experienced before. He’s handled [it] so well, his performances have been great.

“I said to him when we’re in this, or whoever’s playing or whoever I’m playing with, I’m your right arm, you are my left. We do this together. I’ve got your back and he’s bought into that so well.”

Replacing Van Dijk would be his toughest job yet, but Liverpool’s recruitment team and now reportedly Slot believe that Guehi is more than capable of doing just that.
