“1) A extrema necessidade de uma conversa presencial com o elenco profissional, a fim de que possamos, em nome de todos rubro-negros, transmitir a insatisfação com os resultados apresentados;

2) A obrigação de, independentemente do resultado final, que os atletas manifestem uma postura compatível com aquilo que se espera de um funcionário do Clube de Regatas do Flamengo;

3) O peso da desclassificação na Copa do Brasil, tornando, assim, maior a responsabilidade nos campeonatos remanescentes.”

Nuno signing who netted once for Wolves is outscoring Hwang after leaving

Wolverhampton Wanderers have become prolific at unearthing flops at Molineux as their scattergun transfer strategy continues to curtail the club's quest for progress.

The Old Gold have suffered through a multitude of ill-fated decisions in the market and this is exemplified by their terrible recruitment in recent years.

While Nuno Espirito Santo's time at the club was largely successful, he did suffer a rather chequered history in the transfer market, bringing in incredible talent such as; Ruben Neves, Joao Moutinho and Diogo Jota, but also failing in equal measure.

The Portuguese manager struggled to hit the jackpot in the striker department, aside from Raul Jimenez, shelling out huge sums of money on youngsters Patrick Cutrone and Fabio Silva. Cutrone only scored three goals in 28 appearances and is currently plying his trade in Serie B.

raul-jimenez-wolves

Silva, meanwhile, is still at Molineux and has only mustered a measly five goals in 71 appearances after costing the club a staggering £35m in 2020.

Another of those failed additions was Willian Jose, who arrived on loan from Real Sociedad in January 2021.

Willian Jose's statistics at Wolves

Wolves were desperate to sign a striker in the winter window after seeing Jimenez sidelined with a fractured skull in November, which left him with only 18-year-old club-record signing Silva to call upon through the middle.

The target man was expected to fill the Mexican's void, utilising his physical presence to occupy defenders and someone capable of bringing others into play, which is exactly the kind of player that the Old Gold had missed in the absence of Jimenez.

Aside from possessing the sought-after physical attributes, Jose was also known for his consistent goal-scoring powers having reached double figures in La Liga across four consecutive seasons between 2016 and 2020.

The Brazilian had accumulated 11 goals to his name in 37 appearances for Real Sociedad in the 2019/20 season, however, in the first half of the following term he'd only mustered three goals in 13 matches, which should have drawn concerns over his form.

Wolves instead chose to ignore the warning signs and instantly regretted that decision after he only managed one goal in 17 appearances for the club.

Whilst it was ultimately a disastrous spell for Jose, who struggled to acclimatise to the Premier League's demands, the only saving grace was the option to buy in his contract wasn't mandatory and the club were able to send him back to Spain in June.

What Willian Jose has done after leaving Wolves

After departing Molineux, Jose endured a loan spell at Real Betis in the 2021/22 campaign and made that move a permanent one last year for €11m (£9.5m).

He's spent the majority of his time struggling to find the net, evidenced by only scoring two goals in 28 La Liga appearances last term.

This season, however, the Brazilian has turned into an animal in front of goal, plundering four goals in eight matches in Spain's top flight.

And on Wednesday night, Jose's scoring exploits reached new heights as he notched a remarkable four goals in a 12-1 victory over sixth-tier side CD Hernan Cortes in the Copa Del Rey.

Perhaps more alarming for Wolves, the man who flopped at Molineux has now scored more goals than any of their current players this term, including in-form danger man Hwang-hee Chan.

Lancashire have bolstered their spin-bowling options by signing South Africa slow left-armer Keshav Maharaj for the final weeks of the Championship season.Currently bottom of Division One, having played 10 of 14 games, Lancashire have work to do avoid relegation. Maharaj will be available for the crunch home fixture against second-bottom Worcestershire, starting at Southport on Wednesday, as well as trips to Somerset, Yorkshire and Hampshire.”We’re really pleased that Keshav has joined the club,” Lancashire’s head coach, Glen Chapple, said. “He’s a world-class spinner and will strengthen our bowling attack for the final four Championship games. He is an international bowler with experience of bowling in English conditions and we’re looking forward to welcoming him to Emirates Old Trafford.”Maharaj last month claimed 9 for 129 against Sri Lanka in Colombo – the second-best figures in a Test innings for South Africa. Overall, in 22 Tests, Maharaj has taken 90 wickets at 27.65He replaces Australian Joe Mennie as Lancashire’s overseas signing and could form a spin combination with young leggie Matt Parkinson, should pitches turn in the final few weeks of the season. As well as last year’s tour of England, he has experience of playing league cricket in Sussex.Maharaj said: “I’m thrilled to be signing for Lancashire for the remainder of the season. Having previously played in England with South Africa, it’s been an ambition of mine to return and play county cricket. I’m very much looking forward to joining up with the squad and hopefully I can make a significant contribution to help the team during my time here.”

Kusal Mendis called up as replacement for Kusal Perera

Replacement named after incumbent is ruled out of series with a quad strain

Kusal Mendis has been called into the Sri Lanka ODI squad for the remainder of the series against England, as a replacement for Kusal Perera, who suffered a quad strain in the second ODI and has consequently been ruled out of the series.Sri Lanka had initially hoped Perera could recover before the series concluded, but scans have revealed the injury is more serious than was originally thought. There is still a possibility that he will be available for the one-off T20 on the 27th in Colombo, however.Mendis had been a regular member of Sri Lanka’s ODI XI this year, but had been dropped for this series owing to a modest stretch of returns in the format. He had gone 21 innings without a half-century and had especially struggled in last month’s Asia Cup, where he collected two ducks in as many matches.Sri Lanka already have a spare batsman in the squad, in Sadeera Samarawickrama. But if Mendis does get to play, it may serve as an opportunity to gain some batting form ahead of the Test series, in which he will likely bat at No. 3 or 4 for Sri Lanka. His most recent innings in competitive cricket yielded 22 off 28 balls, in the one-day tour match against the visitors.

Meet the West Ham academy star who’s outscoring JWP & Antonio in 23/24

West Ham United boast a proud tradition of taking talented youngsters from their academy and blooding them into the first-team.

It is a strategy that has saved the club millions, as seen with the £105m sale of Declan Rice to Arsenal last summer, after crowning his eight-year stint at the Hammers with glory in the Europa Conference League in June.

While the 24-year-old is the most notable academy graduate in recent years, he joined a long list of world-class English stars who went on to craft an untouchable legacy in the Premier League, including Rio Ferdinand, John Terry, Michael Carrick and Frank Lampard.

Of course, when aspiring to don the claret and blue shirt for the first team, the above names are who youngsters will look up to for inspiration and this is a point that certainly resonates well with George Earthy, an English midfielder who is currently on fire for the U21s.

George Earthy's statistics this season

An attacking midfielder, who joined the Hammers at the age of six, Earthy has established himself as a vital cog in the U21s machine.

He appeared 40 times in all competitions across the U18s and U21s last term, scoring ten and supplying 12 assists while inspiring the former to an exceptional 2022/23 campaign.

The Academy of Football completed a wonderful, historic double by coming from behind to defeat Arsenal 5-1 and lift the FA Youth Cup.

Earthy, who was one of five scorers in that famous victory, played an integral role throughout their run to the final, scoring three goals; a vital a vital late winner away to Burnley in the fourth round, a creative finish in the away win at Stoke City in the fifth, and a classy strike in the final win against the Gunners.

Having turned 19 in September, the goalscoring midfielder – much like Lampard – has carried those match-winning displays across to the U21s this season by displaying his sharp eye for goal and a tendency to pop up in the big game moments.

With five goals in 11 appearances this term, including strikes in EFL Trophy victories against Bristol Rovers and Cheltenham, the Englishman has not only impressed against senior statesmen in that competition but has also outscored first-team stars James Ward-Prowse and Michail Antonio in the process.

How George Earthy compares to Ward-Prowse and Antonio

Lauded as "brilliant" by West Ham journalist EXWHUEmployee, Earthy's stunning start to the season has seen him score more goals than Antonio but perhaps more impressive, Ward-Prowse.

Whilst Antonio has struggled to lead the line this term, scoring just twice in 12 appearances, the Englishman has been a revelation in claret and blue since arriving from St Mary's.

divin-mubama-michail-antonio-west-ham-premier-league

The former Southampton star, who was dubbed by David Moyes as "world-class" following his match-defining display against Nottingham Forest, has already recorded ten assists in all competitions this term.

When it comes to producing quality into the box from dead-ball situations, there is arguably no one better in the Premier League at doing so than Ward-Prowse, who has recorded the most assists from set pieces (17) since the start of the 2020/21 season.

konstantinos-mavropanos-james-ward-prowse-west-ham-opinion

Although his magical right foot has transformed him into an assist machine for his side, it hasn't had the desired impact in front of goal, with only two goals from 17 outings in all competitions.

Indeed, it is remarkable that Earthy is outscoring such an elite midfielder and if he continues to showcase his prowess in front of goal, the 19-year-old will surely make a breakthrough into the first team.

Exciting Leeds talent among 3 academy gems Farke could soon unleash

Leeds United have crafted a legacy for developing the next biggest stars through their academy and it's one that has brought success for decades.

During their period in the top flight between the 1980's and 2000's, in particular, the Whites have always watched a prodigy rise through the youth ranks.

From David Seaman to James Milner and Jonathan Woodgate to Gary Speed, a whole host of Premier League icons started their careers in West Yorkshire.

In the present day, 17-year-old Archie Gray is flying the flag for the next generation of academy talent and Leeds have already planted a £50m price tag on his head amid interest from several European powerhouses.

The Englishman has heavily impressed across 16 appearances in the Championship, predominantly as a right-back, although there are a handful of other youngsters waiting in the wings for their chance to shine at Elland Road.

1 Sean McGurk

Upon his arrival from Wigan Athletic in 2021, Sean McGurk described himself as an "exciting" player to watch and the 20-year-old has certainly delivered on that promise.

An attacking midfielder, who likes to run in behind and score goals, McGurk has risen to prominence as one of the most influential players in the underage groups.

With an impressive four goals and three assists in eight appearances in Premier League 2, the Englishman is outscoring first-team star Georginio Rutter and is the under-21's top scorer.

Leeds forward Georgino Rutter.

In the modern game, it is imperative that an attacking midfielder chips in with their fair share of contributions and the youngster has showcased his sharp eye for goal this term, especially in the entertaining 2-2 draw with Liverpool.

Leeds raced into a 2-0 lead against one of the league's strongest academies and McGurk played a pivotal role, opening the scoring within the first few minutes himself before assisting striker Mateo Joseph.

Such all-action performances, driven by his quality in the final third, offer hope of him reaching a similar potential to academy graduates Kalvin Phillips and Lewis Cook, who have gone on to establish themselves at top-flight level.

2 Mateo Joseph

Leeds reportedly spent £900k to lure the teenage dynamo from Spanish side Espanyol in last year's January transfer window.

European giants Barcelona and Manchester City were said to be keen on the youngster but as claimed by TEAMtalk, Orta's 'persistence' paid off with the ex-Leeds chief securing a deal for him ahead of the competition.

Having netted 14 goals in 21 appearances for Espanyol's under-19 side, including a hat-trick against Barcelona B, Leeds knew they were getting a special talent who possessed freakish scoring exploits, and he instantly carried those across to West Yorkshire.

In 19 Premier League 2 appearances last term, Joseph notched an eye-watering 15 goals, plundering hat-tricks against Derby County, Stoke City and Middlesbrough.

Such form saw the England U20 international make three appearances in the top flight last term, coming off the bench for minutes against Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and Chelsea.

After picking up a knock at the start of this campaign, the 20-year-old has only appeared in two matches in the Premier League 2, scoring and assisting in the 2-2 draw against Liverpool.

3 players Leeds could sell to fund January spree including £25m star

The Whites have had a number of players linked with a winter exit from Elland Road.

ByDan Emery Nov 21, 2023

He has also sent Farke a timely reminder of his talents by starring on the international with a goal in England U20s 3-2 victory over Germany.

With Farke alluding to him playing an "important" role in the club's future, it's only a matter of time before Joseph gets a chance to unleash his precocious talents on a regular basis in the first-team.

3 Darko Gyabi

Leeds were the latest club to benefit from Manchester City offloading their talented youngsters for a cut-price fee when they got rid of midfielder Darko Gyabi in 2022.

The excellent 19-year-old, who was once praised by journalist Joe Donnohue for his "complete" performance for the under-21s, has featured in five first-team fixtures in the senior side.

He came off the bench against Ipswich Town in August and has been an unused substitute in four other league matches this term, which underscores the mantra that Farke already sees him as a squad option at first-team level.

A combative midfielder, who can drive forward with the ball, Gyabi is excellent at winning back possession and can fulfil the role of becoming a screen in front of the defence.

In his three outings in the EFL Trophy this term, the England U20 star has showcased the above by winning 63% of his ground duels, making 2.3 tackles per game and 1.7 clearances, as per Sofascore.

The above statistics indicate that Gyabi is already accustomed to the demands of men's football, albeit against lower-league opposition, and can offer Farke cover for tackling machine Ethan Ampadu.
