CSA has added three players to their usual 18-member men’s contract list, bringing the total number of new deals to five for the 2017-18 season. Stephen Cook, Keshav Maharaj, Chris Morris, Andile Phehlukwayo and Tabraiz Shamsi were all awarded deals with Kyle Abbott and Rilee Rossouw, who both signed Kolpak agreements with Hampshire the only two players from the 2016-17 period not on the list.In an important development, Quinton de Kock and Kagiso Rabada were awarded multi-year contracts, although CSA did not specify the duration of their deals. In the past two-year contracts were the longest awarded but CSA is seeking to give players greater certainty in the aftermath of the Kolpak-exodus which has seen seven recent internationals sign deals.CSA central contracts

Men: Hashim Amla, Temba Bavuma, Farhaan Behardien, Stephen Cook, Quinton de Kock, AB de Villiers, JP Duminy, Faf du Plessis, Dean Elgar, Imran Tahir, Keshav Maharaj, David Miller, Morne Morkel, Chris Morris, Wayne Parnell, Aaron Phangiso, Andile Phehlukwayo, Vernon Philander, Kagiso Rabada, Tabraiz Shamsi, Dale Steyn
Women: Dané van Niekerk, Ayabonga Khaka, Suné Luus, Marizanne Kapp, Mignon du Preez, Shabnim Ismail, Trisha Chetty, Chloe Tryon, Lizelle Lee, Matshipi Marcia Letsoalo, Laura Wolvaardt, Masabata Klaas, Andrie Steyn, Moseline Daniels

When Abbott and Rossouw’s exit was confirmed in January, CSA CEO Haroon Lorgat said his organisation was considering various ways of keeping players in the South African system and longer-term contracts were one option. There were also no details on the type of contract awarded to AB de Villiers, who has opted out of Test cricket for most of 2017, or that of Dale Steyn, who will be out of action until at least June, as he recovers from a shoulder injury. Both players were on two-year deals last year. The only other player nursing a injury on the list is Morne Morkel, who has not played for South Africa since June last year but has been included in the Test squad for the upcoming series in New Zealand and is expected to make a comeback.CSA also award 14 women’s contracts and have made one change to their previous list. Batsman Laura Wolvaardt, who is just 17 and became South Africa’s youngest international centurion (male or female) when she scored 105 against Ireland in August 2016, was the only new inclusion while Dinesha Devnarain was left out. Sune Luus and Ayabonga Khaka were promoted to the top tier.

Newcastle: "Tonali would be delighted" if Howe signs £197k-p/w star

Newcastle United bringing in experienced Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci this window would make new arrival Sandro Tonali 'delighted', according to journalist Dean Jones.

Is Leonardo Bonucci going to Newcastle United?

According to Calciomercato, Newcastle United have had a meeting with Juventus over the possibility of bringing Bonucci to St James' Park this window as he's set to leave the Allianz Stadium.

No concrete offer has been put forward to the £197k-a-week ace; however, the Magpies are assessing the 'economic, technical, physical and motivational conditions' before making a decision on whether to pursue Bonucci.

Speaking on the NUFC Matters Transfer Show, journalist Ben Jacobs cast doubt on any potential move to the North East for Bonucci, stating: "“Very strange, I don’t see it happening at all. Obviously at 36 years of age what would be the logic? You have to think of the wages as well, there would be a big outlay for a 36-year-old. I’m not sure there’s anything significant in this, it’s not advanced in any way, I’m not aware of any serious conversations and there hasn’t been an offer either."

Featuring in a reduced role for Juventus last term, Bonucci amassed 26 appearances in all competitions, getting himself on the scoresheet on two separate occasions, as per Transfermarkt.

Corriere della Sera claim that Sampdoria boss Andrea Pirlo would like to reunite with Bonucci as they prepare for life as a Serie B outfit.

Journalist Jones thinks that new arrival Tonali would be happy if his fellow countryman Bonucci was to join him at St James' Park this summer.

In a recent interview with Football FanCast, Jones stated: "I'm sure Sandro Tonali would be delighted to have an Italian follow him to Tyneside. He is looking for a new club and in line with that, I know that sides have been approached, particularly anyone who is Champions League level but could do with some experience."

Who else has Eddie Howe targeted this summer to join Newcastle United?

Newcastle United look to be active in the market this summer as Eddie Howe plots some savvy business to prepare his side for Champions League involvement this term.

As per The Times, the Magpies are closing in on the signing of Leicester City winger Harvey Barnes for a fee that will touch the £35 million mark.

Leicester City's Harvey Barnes

Any deal to bring Barnes to the North East would mean that Newcastle United have spent their net transfer budget for this window following the arrival of Tonali from AC Milan.

Chronicle Live understand that Newcastle United are yet to submit an official offer for Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney despite being keen on the Scotland international.

Gazzeta dello Sport report that Juventus winger Federico Chiesa could be sold by his current employers and both Newcastle United alongside Liverpool would be attractive options for the Italy international to seek a new challenge in England.

Looking ahead, we will find out more in the next few weeks over who Newcastle United are looking to bring in an what sort of impact they will potential have on the club moving forward.

Stanikzai leads way as Ireland feel the heat

Asghar Stanikzai’s century and fifties from Mohammad Shahzad and Nasir Jamal helped Afghanistan into a dominant position against Ireland

Win the toss? Check. Score 350-plus? Check. Secure first-innings lead? Afghanistan appeared to be heading toward another affirmative tick mark on that front, too, after a commanding performance on the opening day of their Intercontinental Cup clash with Ireland.Captain Asghar Stanikzai’s third I-Cup century set the pace to give the hosts their best chance at claiming not just the six points on offer for securing a first-innings advantage but 14 more for an outright win that would catapult them past Ireland into top spot on the table. His innings seized on the platform laid by Mohammad Shahzad in the opening session on a day where Ireland’s bowlers posed little threat. In the 33 overs of the morning session, Ireland’s bowlers beat the outside edge just three times on a docile pitch. They did their best to prevent Shahzad from running amok, holding the run rate to 2.5 over the first 20 overs as Andy McBrine’s first three overs after replacing new-ball seamer Peter Chase resulted in two maidens and the wicket of Shabir Noori, defending down the wrong line to be trapped in front for 15.Shahzad, who had been batting with a hat on since the 13th over, called for his helmet again in anticipation of a barrage of sweeps to McBrine’s offspin. The first attempt in the 21st over produced a boundary that served the dual purpose of unshackling Afghanistan from a tentative start and unsettling Ireland’s disciplined early lengths. Two more sweeps off George Dockrell in the 24th and Ireland overcorrected further as Shahzad began to pounce on a series of short balls, slamming John Anderson’s occasional legspin for six over midwicket to bring up his fifty in 68 balls. The Afghanistan opener looked primed for a century after reaching lunch on 69 with the score 112 for 1, but resumed his innings in a lethargic state after the interval and paid the price for a lazy flick to a rank half-tracker from Anderson. It was the bowler’s first delivery of a new spell and one that Shahzad would have rocked back in aggressive fashion to swat over the leg side earlier in his innings but a lack of footwork led to his downfall.Though Ireland applied little pressure with the ball beyond the opening hour of play, Afghanistan’s batsmen to that point matched them by operating in first gear. Perhaps sensing the lull that had set in prior to Shahzad’s downfall, Stanikzai seemed intent on making a statement by pushing the pace. After watching Rahmat Shah play out a maiden to Dockrell in the 45th, including an edge spilled by Niall O’Brien at the start of the over, Stanikzai began to twitch and a wild heave against Anderson nearly brought about his downfall but he managed to keep his back foot in the crease after overbalancing. In Anderson’s next over, he was gifted a pair of full tosses that were heaved for six and four before a charge down the pitch produced another six in a 16-run over.Rahmat tried to replicate Stanikzai’s aggression but perished in Anderson’s next over, edging behind to O’Brien for 46. Nasir Jamal joined Stanikzai and was content to play second fiddle to the captain through the early stages of their 144-run partnership as the captain shifted his attention to Chase. In his first over coming back on for Anderson, Chase was disdainfully flicked for six over midwicket and Stanikzai repeated the stroke a few overs later to bring a run-a-ball half-century.Like Shahzad earlier in the day, Stanikzai began the post-tea session in a sleepy state, scoring just seven singles off his first 32 deliveries. Jamal happily took charge, smiting Dockrell for three fours and a six in a four-over stretch as the competition’s leading wicket-taker continued to struggle with his control. Another boundary over midwicket by Jamal in the 76th over was followed two balls later by a six from Stanikzai to send Dockrell out of the attack.Ireland took the second new ball straight away and Chase nearly got them the desired breakthrough, Stanikzai driving loosely toward substitute fielder Jacob Mulder at cover – on for Paul Stirling who was off since the 55th over after injuring his left hand attempting a diving stop – but the chance burst through his fingertips on the way to the rope. Chase finally broke the stand in his next over though, getting Jamal for 73 chasing a wide ball for a toe edge behind. The visitors managed to claim two more wickets by the end of play. McBrine was rewarded for hard toil against the right-handers by getting a crack at the first left-hander to come to the crease, turning one enough to catch Hashmatullah Shahidi’s outside edge on a forward prod that carried nicely to Gary Wilson at slip for 2. A silver lining to Dockrell’s underwhelming day came courtesy of Mohammad Nabi, who drove to Chase at mid-off for 11, giving the left-armer figures of 1 for 91.But Ireland could not conquer Stanikzai before stumps. He fittingly brought up his century in 137 balls via a boundary against Chase, the bowler he profited from most. At that stage, Stanikzai had scored 31 runs off just 22 balls he faced from Chase, including three of his seven boundaries and two of his five sixes. Afghanistan scored at four an over with Stanikzai at the crease and with a robust tail behind him, 500 by lunch on day two is realistically achievable before Ireland begin their response.

Chelsea Make Bid For "Highly Talented" £21m Gem

Chelsea have now submitted an opening bid for Flamengo's Matheus Franca, with Todd Boehly willing to pay the €25m (£21m) needed to secure the forward's signature, according to a recent report from Globo Esporte.

What's the latest Chelsea transfer news?

A new attacking midfielder is on the agenda for Mauricio Pochettino, with Lyon's Rayan Cherki currently being pursued, and transfer expert Graeme Bailey has claimed that members of the scouting team are "really pushing" for the 19-year-old.

Fabrizio Romano has recently reported that Franca has been followed by the Blues for quite some time, while also suggesting the player himself would be very open to the move, saying: "Matheus Franca is really appreciated. He is a player that they have been following for a long time.

"I can mention that the player will be really excited about the possibility of joining Chelsea."

Now, it appears as though the Brazilian could be presented with an opportunity to move to Stamford Bridge, as according to Globe Esporte (via Sport Witness), Chelsea have now submitted an opening bid.

The Blues are not the only Premier League club to have tabled an offer for the 19-year-old, however, as Flamengo club director Bruno Spindel has confirmed that Crystal Palace have also came forward with a proposal.

It is not clear how much Chelsea have put on the table for the youngster, but it is detailed that Flamengo want €25m (£21m) to sanction his departure, and Boehly is willing to match that asking price.

One potential disadvantage the west Londoners may have in the race for the starlet is that they plan to loan him out to Strasbourg immediately, while Palace are keen to use him straight away, which could attract him to Selhurst Park.

Who is Matheus Franca?

The Rio de Janeiro-born maestro mainly plays in an advanced midfield role, but he is also very much capable of playing on both wings and at striker, so he would be a versatile option for Pochettino.

One of the forward's key strengths is his dribbling ability, ranking in the 99th percentile for successful take-ons per 90 over the past year, when compared to his positional peers playing at a similar level, while also placing in the 96th percentile for progressive carries over that timeframe.

Lauded as "highly talented" by football scout Jacek Kulig, the Flamengo star has already recorded 54 first-team appearances for the Brazilian Serie A side, despite being just 19-years-old, during which time he has found the back of the net nine times.

Matheus Franca

That said, the attacker is, as yet, unproven outside of Brazil, and it would be a risk to put him straight into the first team, so it is probably a wise move to send him out on loan to Strasbourg.

Ideally, Franca would agree to move to the Ligue 1 side on loan and develop his game further, but it would not be a surprise if he wants to play Premier League football immediately, and ends up being attracted by a move to Crystal Palace.

Nash leads way as Sussex see off Surrey

Chris Nash’s 82 from 87 balls, with three sixes and eight fours, spearheaded a fine all-round effort by Sussex at Hove

Chris Nash’s 82 from 87 balls, with three sixes and eight fours, spearheaded a fine all-round effort by Sussex at Hove as they first reached 300 for 8 and then bowled out Surrey for 205 to win what was an important Royal London Cup South Group match for both sides by 95 runs.Mark Stoneman batted well for 60 in Surrey’s reply, and Ollie Pope offered late defiance with 55 off 63 balls but their challenge quickly faded after Stoneman pulled David Wiese straight to deep square leg.Stoneman had already seen Scott Borthwick and Dom Sibley depart cheaply to edges behind, and soon Surrey had lost their top five with Ben Foakes brilliantly held for 3 by keeper Michael Burgess off an inside edge – Wiese again the successful bowler – and Rory Burns falling for 31 when Danny Briggs dived to his left to hold a low one-handed catch off his own bowling. The slump then continued to 146 for 7 with Sam Curran bowled by a George Garton near-yorker and Tom Curran skying Briggs to mid-off. Gareth Batty, on 14, was held on the deep midwicket ropes but the19-year-old Pope reached a creditable 55-ball fifty, swinging Briggs for six and then late-cutting him delightfully for four.Garton finally got Pope, well held by Jofra Archer at long-on, and Wiese wrapped up Sussex’s third victory from five group matches by castling last man Ravi Rampaul to finish with 4 for 29. Sussex, who also have a No Result point in the locker, now have seven points in a group led by Somerset and Essex.Put in on a good pitch, Sussex were also indebted to Harry Finch for a 78-ball 61 – he and Nash put on 85 for the second wicket – and Laurie Evans for a violent 37 from 23 balls with three leg-side sixes off Tom Curran, two in a 45th over which cost the Surrey seamer 24 runs. That assault by Evans, plus useful late hitting from Burgess and Wiese, propelled Sussex to the 300 mark after their momentum had been temporarily stalled by Nash’s departure at 149 and the dismissals of both Finch and Stiaan Van Zyl in the 39th over.Sussex’s innings was given a fine start by Nash and Luke Wright, who tucked into the Curran brothers in the initial Powerplay overs – Nash taking three successive fours off Sam Curran in the fourth over and Wright then hitting Tom Curran for two boundaries in the next over. Wright departed for 34 in the 12th over, inside-edging a drive at Rampaul, but Nash reached his fifty by lofting Batty’s offspin effortlessly over long-off for six, and repeating the stroke in the Surrey captain’s next over.Nash had also pulled Tom Curran for six but, after another powerful pull for four off the younger Curran, he top-edged a hook in the same over high towards long leg and saw Tom Curran run in to pull off a brilliant, athletic sprawling catch as he dived forward across the turf. Van Zyl was another to fall to the short ball, top-edging to fine leg, while Finch nicked an excellent ball from Tom Curran to the keeper.Evans, fresh from a spectacular match-winning hundred against Kent two days before, which had included eight sixes, showed he was a man in form by beautifully extra-cover driving Stuart Meaker for an early four, before picking up a length ball from Tom Curran for his first six.Umpire Nigel Llong did well to avoid a crashing straight four from the next ball, and the over ended with Evans flicking a full toss from Curran high over fine leg.Burgess, after a straight six off Rampaul, skied to deep midwicket on 23 and Evans was leg-before to Sam Curran in the same over that Archer was run out for 1. There was just time for Wiese to club a huge six over long-on off Rampaul before he was caught on the straight boundary for 23 from the last ball of the innings.

Leeds United: Reporter now thinks "leader" to stay at Elland Road

Wilfried Gnonto and Tyler Adams remain part of Leeds United's plans for next season, according to journalist Ryan Taylor

Both players have been linked with moves away from Elland Road following the side's relegation.

Will Gnonto and Adams leave Leeds this summer?

The duo have attracted a lot of interest this summer, but the Yorkshire club remains committed to keeping them at Elland Road.

Adams, who has been hailed as a "leader", has been targeted by Premier League sides Aston Villa and West Ham United this summer, with the USA international impressing last campaign for the Whites. The midfielder has reportedly informed new manager Daniel Farke of his desire to depart this window, however an injury that will keep him ruled out until September has cast doubt over the possibility of it being completed. The report from Football Insider also states that Bundesliga clubs are interested in the former RB Leipzig player, who wants to continue to play at the highest level possible. Should either Aston Villa or West Ham make a move for the 24-year-old, the allure of European football may be a deciding factor.

Soccer Football – FA Cup – Leeds United v Cardiff City – Elland Road, Leeds, Britain – January 18, 2023 Leeds United’s Wilfried Gnonto celebrates scoring their third goal with Tyler Adams REUTERS/Molly Darlington

Gnonto has already been the subject of a bid from a Premier League side, with Merseyside club Everton seeing a £15m offer for the young Italian international rejected by Leeds. The attacker who joined for just £3.8m from Swiss side FC Zurich last summer impressed many with eight goal contributions last season, even attracting interest from current champions Manchester City as well as Arsenal. Unlike a number of other players who have left Elland Road this summer, the former Inter Milan youth product's contract does not contain a relegation clause that allows him to depart this summer, strengthening the Yorkshire side's negotiation position.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, journalist Taylor revealed that despite both players being the subjects of interest, Leeds are planning for next season with both players in mind: "I think there is a chance they stay. Certainly Adams and although there's been interest from the likes of Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest, there hasn't really been anything too concrete. Obviously, the Championship season isn't too far away now, I think it's just under two weeks away. So ultimately, I think they are part of the plans at the moment.”

Who will Leeds buy next?

Leeds are looking to attack the transfer market in the next couple of weeks, with the new season on the horizon.

The club have already announced the signing of Welsh international Ethan Ampadu from Chelsea, and are hoping to bring in another central defender in the form of Liverpool player Nat Phillips. The 25-year-old looks set to leave the Reds this summer for a fee of £10m and the Yorkshire side have registered an interest in the Englishman alongside current Dutch champions Feyenoord.

The side are also looking to address the goalkeeping position, with current shot-stopper Illan Meslier expected to leave by the end of the transfer window according to Dean Jones. Leeds have already earmarked a replacement for the Frenchman, with Newcastle keeper Karl Darlow reportedly in "advanced talks" over a move.

joel-piroe-transfer-gossip-swansea-city-leeds-united-farke-49ers

Leeds also need to replace Rodrigo, who joined Qatar side Al Rayyan for £3m this summer. Rodrigo was the club's top scorer last season with 15 goals in 35 games across all competitions which will be tough to replace. The main target appears to be Swansea striker Joel Piroe, who is also wanted by Everton and Leicester City, with the Swans wanting £15m to part ways with their striker.

WATCH – Jadhav goes low and slow

Watch: The moments of play that made the Kingston ODI

ESPNcricinfo staff06-Jul-2017Jadhav’s tricks claim Mohammed
How difficult is it to hit Kedar Jadhav? Ask Jason Mohammed. He bowls offbreaks, but they don’t turn; they slide away a touch, if at all. He bowls them slow, so there is no pace to work. In this match he bowled with an arm lower than Lasith Malinga’s, with the knee bending further to make his release even lower. Mohammed realised he couldn’t expose the stumps, he had to impart all the power himself, and there was the dilemma of “will it turn or not”. In the 31st over, Mohammed was beaten first by one slid away, then had to keep out one that kept low. Then his partner Shai Hope had a chat with him. Next ball he tried to force it away, but all he managed was a return catch. Jadhav even went for a double-play, removing the bails at the non-striker’s end to let Hope know he was out of his crease.India’s misses
Though India restricted West Indies to 205 for 9, their fielding was not at its best. There were misfields in the outfield, a few fumbles, and some chances – some really difficult ones, some not quite so – missed.Dhawan’s downward slide
After his two fifties in Trinidad, Shikhar Dhawan has struggled to adjust to the slowness of the pitches. In the third ODI, he ramped, but because of the lack of pace, the ball settled with third man. In the fourth, he drove on the up and found mid-on. He repeated the mistake in Jamaica, driving on the up, ending up playing in front of his body, and giving cover a catch.Kohli handles the short ball
In the previous matches, Virat Kohli’s eagerness to score off the bouncer – a dominating-batsman’s ego if you will – had got the better of him, but here he was prepared to wait it out. He kept ducking, weaving and leaving bouncers before he finally hooked in the ninth over, at least the eighth bouncer bowled at him. This was smoked clean in front of square for four with the wrists managing to keep it down.
